Even though Heroes – the TV show that tends to either be called The New Lost or The Lost With A Japanese Man Constantly Shrieking About Waffles – is already stuffed with so many characters that it's hard to keep track.
But screw that, because Heroes wants more new characters! More new characters played by people who are sort of quite famous! More characters who'll please people that get excited at the phrase 'multiepisode arc'! It's been announced that Kristen Bell, star of Veronica Mars and that new film that Russell Brand won't stop banging on about, is going to join Heroes for – wait for it – a multiepisode arc. Nobody quite knows what sort of character Kristen Bell will be playing in Heroes, but it's generally hoped that a) Kristen Bell won't be as annoying as she was on Veronica Mars and b) she'll kill that bloody split-personality Heroes woman, because if she was any more rubbish she could honestly be used as an illegal torture device.
Heroes is one of the hottest shows around at the moment, for all kinds of reasons. For one it's a high-concept, vaguely sci-fi TV show like Lost that doesn't suffer from having a cast who can't even drive properly like Lost. And also the characters in Heroes are all beautifully drawn, from the floppy-haired nurse who whines so much that we want to punch him, to the woman who wrongly seems to think that getting a bit angry and winking at herself in a mirror sometimes constitutes a super power, to the annoying doctor, to Invisible Doctor Who.
But enjoy Heroes while you can. Soon there'll be a spin-off called Heroes: Origins to accompany the main Heroes show, following on from the spellbinding success of the Martha Stewart Apprentice spin-off. Because the schedules will soon be clogged with Heroes and Heroes: Origins – not to mention further Heroes spin-offs like Heroes On The Moon, Heroes Goes Bananas and The Sexy Adventures Of Heroes At Night – the main Heroes show is going to need a big-name draw to keep people interested. And it's got one – Kristen Bell.
But, hey, just because Kristen Bell is mostly known for being the star of a cancelled Buffy rip-off, it doesn't mean that she's a nobody. In fact Kristen Bell is everywhere right now – going to Tom Cruise's big David Beckham party and singing the theme-tune from Fame at the Emmys. And this bewildering 'twice mentioned in hecklerspray over the course of two years' ubiquity is why Kristen Bell will be so good for Heroes, as E! Online reports:
Bell is on track to make her Heroes debut in October. Producers aren't tipping their hands to the exact nature of her character, but, per NBC, she'll play "a sexy, intriguing, mysterious young lady" named Elle, with ties to Peter, Claire and Claire's father, aka HRG. While Elle makes the scene with a bang—committing a "terrible crime"—it will be unclear whether she's really good or possibly the next Sylar. "This was not easy to pull off," Heroes' mastermind Tim Kring said in a statement. "But since we're an ensemble show, with many arcs playing out through the year, we found a way to jump into a small window in [Bell's] schedule.
Appearing in Heroes will be an undoubtedly big step for Kristen Bell, because it's been an equally big step for the other stars of Heroes – Sylar will play Spock in the new Star Trek movie, Peter Petrelli was Rocky Balboa's son in Rocky Balboa, Matt Parkman was in Mission: Impossible III for two seconds a year before Heroes was made and the awful split-personality woman will soon be in Resident Evil: Extinction where hopefully she'll stay forever.
