Like sands through the hour glass, so fall the infamous perverts of Hollywood. Ever since Harvey Weinstein got outed for being half pig/rapist goblin, the entertainment industry has decided it is fucking OVER powerful men getting away with being sexual predators and is calling everyone and their creepy dad out. Next up on Hollywood’s burn book: Kevin Spacey.
Actor Anthony Rapp has accused Spacey of making pretty aggressive drunken sexual advances towards him when he was only 14-years-old and Spacey was 26 back in 1986. Spacey took the the internet to offer up what started as a decent enough apology, but then turned into him coming out (as if we didn’t know) in the worst way possible.
Spacey took to Twitter with the following statement:
I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor. I am beyond horrified to hear his story. I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.
This SHOULD be where Spacey clued things up and reiterated he was shitty and this is all on him and he deserves any backlash that comes his way, but NOPE. Spacey decided the best way to turn this shit around was to take this moment to finally come out as a gay man, as if we didn’t all fucking know this for YEARS. He added:
This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life. I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy. As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior.
Needles to say, many people, including LGBTQ celebrities, took to Twitter to freak the fuck out at Spacey for trying to deflect the accusations against him by finally coming out. As Billy Eichner tweeted:
Kevin Spacey has just invented something that has never existed before: a bad time to come out.
Using the whole “no wait, but I’m finally going to admit that I’m gay!” bit as a way to garner some sympathy/make this all about you when you’ve been accused of sexual depravity is one thing, but being like “Sorry I tried to fuck that child, but I’m gay!” is a whoooooole other fucked up narrative.
The gay community has spent a goddamn lifetime trying to shed this whole “all gays are sexual predators who will corrupt and molest children” stereotype as it is completely unfair and disgusting, so to have this incredibly respected actor come out under the pretense of trying to commit an act pedophilia is deeply disturbing and damaging to the gay community and Kevin Spacey should be fucking ashamed of himself.
This shit really hurts me, because Kevin Spacey used to be my favorite actor and I legit had the biggest crush on him back in junior high just because I thought he was the absolute most talented guy ever, however by the time I reached my late-teens/early-20s, I started to hear some really fucked up shit about Kevin Spacey that really kind of turned me off.
You see, for all these years, Kevin Spacey has kind of been the gay Harvey Weinstein. Everyone’s heard stories. I live in Newfoundland with ZERO celebrity connections other than the time Lil’ Kim liked one of my comments on her Instagram pic, and even I know guys that were hit on by Kevin Spacey in their teens! No shit! He filmed his movie The Shipping News here back in 2000 and has been back several times and I know a handful of guys that either worked at the airport or local restaurants who told me that Kevin Spacey got super flirty with them. And this was when these guys were between the ages of 17 and 20. One of my ex-boyfriends, who was about 19 at the time, even had Spacey comment to him that he liked how young he looked.
If people here have stories, I’m guessing people everywhere have stories, and much like the pot boiling over for Harvey Weinstein, I can’t see things getting much better for Kevin Spacey.
