If you close your eyes and imagine really hard that it's 15 years ago, the thought of Kevin Costner – star of Robin Hood, The Bodyguard and Dances With Wolves – having a baby boy is actually sort of exciting, but now not so much.
Still, the fact of the matter is that Kevin Costner has had a baby boy with his wife Christine – and judging by the name he's given it, Costner's keen to relive his past glories. Kevin Costner has called his baby Cayden Wyatt Costner, with the middle name clearly referring to his 1994 movie Wyatt Earp. As much as we mock, though, baby Cayden has got off lightly – he could have just as easily been called Bull Durham, That Webby Guy Out Of Waterworld or Frat Boy Number One named after Kevin Costner's seminal work on the 1982 movie Night Shift.
Perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised that Kevin Costner has named his new baby boy after a role he played in a movie when he was still famous, because Kevin Costner seems to permanently have one eye trained on the past. Whether he's trying to make The Bodyguard 2 or flogging Field Of Dreams DVDs with his vanity band, everything Kevin Costner seems to do is rooted in a time when he was a much bigger star than he is now. But then, if your present was full of shonky coast guard films co-starring Ashton Kutcher, wouldn't you want to live in the past too?
But now isn't the time to deride Kevin Costner for making useless films like Rumour Has It or for supposedly wanking at a masseuse in a Scottish hotel, because Kevin Costner has had a baby boy – and this is a moment that's easily as full of happiness and joy as when Kevin Costner had kids with either of the other two women he's knocked up in the past. The Daily Dish reports:
Actor Kevin Costner is celebrating after he became a father again on Sunday night, when his wife, Christine, gave birth to a baby boy. Cayden Wyatt Costner was born late Sunday at a Los Angeles-area hospital. It is the couple's first child together. The actor's publicist, Paul Bloch, says, "Both mother and son are doing well."
Bloch – who had spent the previous six years prior to making that statement in a deep slumber – then added "but the father isn't doing so well. I mean, did you actually see The Guardian?"
Oh, we're just joking – congratulations to Kevin Costner, Christine and baby Cayden Wyatt Costner. We look forward to seeing you all on the cover of Bella in an exclusive photo deal worth in excess of 12p.
