Kanye West Gets To Do Mission: Impossible III Theme-Tune

Tom Cruise films all have brilliant soundtracks. From Kenny Loggins singing Danger Zone in Top Gun to David Coverdale rocking out all over Days Of Thunder to Limp Bizket… actually, scrap that.
On the whole, Tom Cruise soundtracks are completely dreadful and without a scrap of merit whatsoever. But maybe that will all change this summer - Kanye West, who seems to be on something of a run of good form lately, has signed up to do the theme-tune to Mission: Impossible III.
Mission: Impossible III is due for release this summer, and there are just a handful of things we know about it so far. 1) The Mission: Impossible III trailer has lots of lovely Shanghai shots in it, 2) Mission: Impossible III is being directed by J.J Abrams from Lost, so there’ll probably be a kind of invisible polar bear thing chasing Tom Cruise for most of the time, and 3) Tom Cruise will probably make a twat out of himself when he promotes Mission: Impossible III.
And now we can add another point to our list - 4) Kanye West (CDs) is going to retool the Mission: Impossible theme-tune for the soundtrack to the new film. And, dude, Tom Cruise is awesomely pumped about it - as he managed to convey in a news release about Kanye’s appointment:
"As a fan of Kanye’s work, I was thrilled at the prospect of him
contributing his talents to M:i:III. We wanted to take this instalment of Mission to the next level and Kanye’s music
definitely added to accomplishing that goal. As
we’ve done with the film, what he’s done with the Mission theme is
going to blow people away."
It’s unclear what Tom thought of the last two Mission: Impossible soundtracks - the forgettable U2 one and the jaw-droppingly awful Limp Bizket one - but we’re fairly sure Tom figured that they were all "next level" and would "blow people away." Call it a hunch.
But the last two Mission: Impossible soundtracks pale into insignificance compared to what Kanye West has come up with, as Tom Cruise told MTV:
"I’m a big fan of his work and we said, ‘What’s Kanye doing?’ - ‘He’s busy, busy, busy.’ So… I went by and he’s got two songs that he wrote that are just unbelievable - he did a version of Mission: Impossible and an original… It is ‘Wow’. When you see an artist that you just respect and he’s so talented.
I was like, ‘Man, I’d love to see what he’s gonna do with this.’ You’ve got to hear what he did with it. It’s Kanye West and it’s
really extraordinary. I looked at him and said, ‘Man, you killed it.’"
You hear that? He killed it. Man.
Mission: Impossible III is released in May.
