Johnny Depp Hasn’t Made Enough Stupid Pirate Films Yet
Then buzz it up

This is quite the time of year for badly thought-out third sequels to blockbuster movies - first was Spider-Man 3, then Shrek 3 and, this week, Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 - but don't think that this is the last you'll see of Johnny Depp's tiresome funny run.
Although you'd get the impression that Disney would keep thumping out Pirates Of The Caribbean movies until the sun exploded so long as they kept making money, Johnny Depp's artistic pedigree was one of the factors why most people assumed this wouldn't happen. But screw all that, because Johnny Depp is now rushing around telling anyone he can that he wants to be Jack Sparrow in as many Pirates Of The Caribbean movies as he can. We couldn't be more excited at this news, especially since world is desperately short of overlong, needlessly confusing maritime movies that contain extended sequences of Keira Knightley wrongfully believing herself to be the slightest bit amusing.
It's not really a surprise that more Pirates Of The Caribbean movies are on the cards. After the huge box office success of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and estimated huge box office success of Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End, it'd be ridiculous to think that everyone would want to pack the movies away for good, not least when audiences are still desperate to see Johnny Depp do a British accent and run around in an ambiguously gay way.
There are stumbling blocks in the way of more Pirates Of The Caribbean movies, though - like Keira Knightley not wanting to be famous any more -but at least Johnny Depp's prepared to ride the money train for all it's worth, as THN quotes:
"I'm the luckiest guy in the world to have had such a great experience. If I walk away from Jack now, I'll walk away with some amazing memories. But At World's End leaves open the possibility of a fourth or fifth movie, which I wouldn't be opposed to on an actor level because I feel there is a lot more territory to explore with Captain Jack."
And you'd need to be an idiot to disagree with Johnny Depp here - there is so much more territory to explore with Captain Jack, like the territory where someone says something and Captain Jack looks at them in an amusingly quizzical way, or the territory where Captain Jack pulls a face like someone has put a turd under his nose, or the territory where Captain Jack buys Johnny Depp a vineyard.
But maybe we shouldn't be so cynical. Pirates Of The Caribbean has bought Johnny Depp widespread public acceptance for the first time in his life - he's won People's Choice awards and Kid's Choice awards for the movies, something that he pointedly didn't for his role in, say, The Astronaut's Wife. Plus, Johnny Depp doesn't appear to be the kind of man who'd make movies for money alone - otherwise he'd have never made, say, The Astronaut's Wife - so maybe this 'unexplored territory' does hold some water. After all, Johnny Depp was saying the exact same thing a year ago, too.
Or maybe we're overestimating Johnny Depp, and the real reason he's so keen to keep churning out these Pirates Of The Caribbean movies is because he's just worked out that making films about poisoned Russian spies probably won't get him made into any more action figures. Although we'd bloody well buy the lot of them if it did.

You’re a little harsh, here. He’s probably just trying to keep the series on an “up” note for promotion purposes, or he’s having a hard time givine up the character, or he’s trying to make money for his production company. The Astronaut’s Wife: just saw it and, while the core of a film seems to be missing here, I like Johnny’s performance in it.

Y’know some people like the movies. Johnny wants to keep playing purely because he loves the character. No one wants to hear you slagging it off. If you dont like it, dont watch it. Simple as.
