Johnny Cash House Burns Burns Burns
Johnny Cash was a bit of a mystic; his most famous song was Ring Of Fire, and yesterday the Tennessee house he lived in burnt to the ground in a ring of fire – he probably wishes that the song was called Minor Superficial Damage Only or something.
It goes without saying that the loss of Johnny Cash's to fire like this is a genuine tragedy – not only was it the house where Johnny Cash wrote many of his best-known songs but it was also the setting for the haunting video to his single Hurt – but at least we can console ourselves with the fact that one of the Bee Gees bought the house after Johnny Cash died and, as the law states, finding happiness in the misfortune of a Bee Gee is a perfectly acceptable thing to do.
It's a fact that – unless you're Eddie Murphy – any time an actor stars in a film about a singer, the film will win a bunch of Oscars; it happened with Ray Charles and it happened with Johnny Cash. However, history also reveals that when someone makes a film about you, you quickly die and then your house burns down. Missy Elliott must be bricking it.
Because both things have happened to Johnny Cash. Although Walk The Line resulted in a critical reevaluation of his work, increased record sales, one of his daughters walking out of a screening five times and the world's worst Oscar speech, Johnny Cash died before it was released and now the Tennessee house he lived in with his wife June for 35 years has been destroyed in a fire. Coincidence? Probably just a coincidence actually, yes. CNN reports:
Johnny Cash's longtime lakeside home, a showcase where he wrote much of his famous music and entertained U.S. presidents, music royalty and visiting fans, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday… "So many prominent things and prominent people in American history took place in that house — everyone from Billy Graham to Bob Dylan went into that house," said singer Marty Stuart, who lives next door and was married to Cash's daughter, Cindy, in the 1980s.
The fire started at about 1.40pm local time yesterday and spread quickly – apparently due to the flammable wood preserve that had been applied by construction workers, presumably employed by Bee Gee Barry Gibb. Last year Barry Gibb bought Johnny Cash's house for a reported $2.3 million, and was planning to renovate it in order to write songs there in Johnny Cash's memory – songs like I've Got A Lovely Beard, Barry Gibb Was The Best Bee Gee and Let's Have A Sexy Disco Party All Night Long Baby Baby Baby.
But now Barry Gibb has no choice but to write all his songs in one of his other expensive luxurious houses, as the fire completely decimated the property, leaving only the chimneys. No doubt Johnny Cash is equally upset at the loss of his home. Either that or he doesn't really much care one way or the other, what with him being dead and all.

First, I liked the way this was written because Gibb didn’t deserve to live in Cash’s house. I also want to add this isn’t the first house of JC to burn down. I lived in Ventura County when he had a house near Ojai (Casistas Springs) and it burned down after his truck caught on fire and it nearly burned down a good part of the county. He moved there in 1958 but I can’t remember the year of the fire.
That poor house was going to be subjected to some really nasty tunes. It must have spontaneously combusted when it realized it’s fate! Tribute tunes by any artist are suspect, a GIbb, all the more. The house was trying to preserve the real Johnny Cash for it’s own memeory and ours. Good work, house! You not only saved yourself, you saved us all!
This article does not even need a response. Obviously Jimmy Who? doesnt know anything about Barry Gibb or the Bee Gees. If he did, he would have written a whole different article. Sad for him I must say, he sure did and IS missing out on listening to one of the most successful artists of our lifetime!
I have always liked the Bee Gees music..and it is much more than disco music…They have many, many different styles of music…Some of my favorites are, Alone, Don’t Forget To Remember, I’ll Kiss Your Memory, A Lonely Violin, Mando Bay, Dreamin On…Andy recorded….All The Love In The World, My Eternal Love, Lamplight…etc…and so on…Many, many beautiful songs that Barry and his brothers have written..And I think it is unfair to criticise Barry Gibb for buying Johhny’s house and wanting to live there with his wife and family. He is a very kind, sincere man and should be treated with respect….I recently met Barry Gibb in Miami Beach at the park dedication for his brother Maurice and we were all greeted gracefully by this very talented man who has a lot of respect for Johhny Cash and his music…
