I wish I could have put an eye roll emoji at the end of that title, but alas, our technology has not yet advanced that far. As you may or may not know, Jay-Z and Beyoncé are super good friends with Chris Martin and his pretentious af ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow. It sounds weird, I know.
Both couples have consistently tongued the others’ asshole via the media with constant praise, and Jay-Z decided to take it a step further this week by comparing Chris Martin to William Shakespeare. Yeah…ok.
In his recent interview with Metro, Jay-Z talked about his friendship with the Coldplay frontman and how he basically has a man crush on Chris Martin and thinks he’s a musical genius. I mean, I liked “The Scientist” just as much as every other white person, but I feel like maybe Jay-Z takes his Coldplay love too far. Hova said to Metro:
“We are good friends, but what I got to say has nothing to do with our friendship. I have been in the industry long enough to know when I’m in the presence of a genius…and Chris Martin is just that. In years to come, Britain will look back on him as a modern day Shakespeare. He is an incredible recording artist, an incredible songwriter, but where he comes alive is performing live. If you get a chance to see Coldplay live, do it–you ain’t gonna regret it.”
First of all, if Britain is going to look back on any of it’s artists and be like “They were that times’ Shakespeare, it’s going to be The Spice Girls. Second, I am 90% sure that “Speed of Sound” and “Clocks” are the exact same song, so where is the genius in that? Third, has Jay-Z been to a Coldplay concert since 2001, because their music has seriously gone downhill since then so I really feel like I would not regret missing a modern day Coldplay concert. Seriously, unless they’re going to play “Yellow” and “The Scientist” and maybe “Fix You” on repeat for like an hour I just don’t give a shit.
