Hugh Jackman To Prance And Croon For Disney Musical

Hugh_jackmanHugh Jackman just can’t control his feet.

While he’s better known for growling and snarling as Wolverine in the X-Men movies, Hugh’s ready to finally reveal his softer side to the world – by starring in a Walt Disney musical based on a book by one of Westlife‘s sister-in-laws.

Hugh Jackman (DVDs) is no stranger to dressing up in tight-fitting clothes
and dancing his fears away. In his relatively short career, he’s
starred in the likes of Hey, Mr. Producer! The Musical World Of Cameron
Mackintosh, Oklahoma!
and a forthcoming cartoon musical about a dancing
penguin as well as a Tony-winning stint on a Broadway musical, The Boy From Oz.

So when it came to casting the part of a girl’s imaginary friend who
somehow becomes romantically involved with her aunt in the Disney musical If
You Could See Me Now
, no name screamed louder than Hugh’s. The movie is
based on an unpublished novel by Cecelia Ahern, the 22-year-old
daughter of Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern and sister-in-law of one
of Westlife.

It’s a busy time for Hugh – he’s just signed up to star in The
Prestige
– a period piece about magicians from the director of Batman
Begins
, as well as an adaptation of The Fountain by Darren Aronovsky, a
cartoon about a rat, a new Woody Allen film, X-Men 3 and a Wolverine
spin-off movie.

If You Could See Me Now has just been announced, so there’s no
script, no writer and no songs attached to the project yet. So Hugh
will have plenty of time to practise his high-kicks and pas de chats.

Disney have paid for the rights to what could be the next generations answer to ‘Free Willy’

Why, oh why would they create a musical? The plot sells it’s self with punchy family humour and a sense of magic that can rarely be created and enjoyed by your average rat raced 9-5er’

The book sparkles with potential and when I heard it was Disney productions I was in awe! What an opportunity to create something on a par with the movies I will seldom forget from my childhood. Memories of watching films such as ‘Drop Dead Fread’ and the pre mentioned ‘Free Willy’ will always be discussed with fondness! I will watch the movie with an open minded cynicism about me. It could have been great, now it’ll just be good.
