It’s never really a good idea to make a TV series out of a film, especially when that TV series will be an adaptation of quite a rubbish film in the first place like, say, Mr & Mrs Smith.

Only, that’s exactly what’s happening. ABC has picked up Mr & Mrs Smith for a TV series adaptation. It’s thought that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are unlikely to reprise their roles in the TV show, as they’re far too busy trying to deliberately annoy Jennifer Aniston by filling each other up with impossibly beautiful foetuses all the time.

With the exception of perhaps M*A*S*H, TV series adaptations of
movies have been invariably lame. True, we only managed to think so far
as Fame before our brains recoiled in terror, but that’s probably
enough. George Lucas has long threatened a Star Wars TV show, and the more we think about Fox’s proposed cheapo Terminator TV series, the more we shudder.

But Mr & Mrs Smith (DVDs)? Surely the only reason that anyone actually
went to see Mr & Mrs Smith in the first place was to try and see if
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were really bumping genitals
behind Aniston’s back. The film itself probably went on for 30 minutes
too long, so Christ knows what a TV show of Mr & Mrs Smith will be
like.

There are a few good signs, though. ABC has signed up the writer of
the Mr & Mrs Smith movie - Simon Kinberg - to write the script for
the TV pilot, while Doug Liman - director of the film - is also
planning to direct. So at least with the original creative team in
place, the Mr & Mrs Smith TV show might be able to retain some pace
and flair and zap.

Ah, who are we kidding, it’ll be exactly the same as Hart To Hart.

i think it would be a good idea but only if brad pitt and angelina jolie would play their original roles, not played by anyone else

Many people (rightfully) forget that Mr. and Mrs. Smith was originally a TV show, so it’s not like this hasn’t been done before. 13 episodes were made, 9 shown, on CBS back in the mid 90’s (1996).
