Miley Cyrus should be really pissed at Ariana Grande right now, but she probably isn’t, because they’re actually really good buds. But why do I think she should be? Well, Miley dropped the video for her new song with Mark Ronson, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart”, on the 29th, only to be overshadowed by Ariana dropping the epic video for “Thank U, Next” the very next day.
While Ariana had the superior video, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” is the superior song, and shows off the best work Miley has done since Bangerz.
After spending a few years releasing music that barely showcased her talents and was meh at best, Miley released a song last week with Mark Ronson called, as I’ve already mentioned twice, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.” Working with Mark Ronson in the year 2000+ is like working with The Neptunes in the 90s (and early 2000s, tbh): you KNOW that shit is going to be fire.
However, like I already said, within 24 hours of Miley dropping her song, Ariana dropped the highly anticipated video for “Thank U, Next”, so I feel like Miley’s new song didn’t get the attention it deserved. Have a listen!
While the video is a bit distracting, if you listen to just the song (which I’m doing right now), it’s got some real Miley Cyrus backyard sessions vibes (remember when she covered “Jolene”? So good). Actually, this entire song has a little bit of a “Jolene” vibe.
I have a huge soft spot for Miley Cyrus, and I was super underwhelmed by all of her post-Bangerz work, but I’m really, really feeling thing. If this is any indication of what her new album is going to be like, then 2019 could see a really triumphant musical return of Miley Cyrus.
