Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire Movie Hype Machine Gears Up

We’ve only recovered from the ferocious onslaught of hype for the Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince book, where Dumbledore dies but will probably come back to life like Gandalf in the next one.

And now, the Harry Potter hype machine is gearing up for the release of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, the latest Harry Potter movie due for release in November. Oh joy…

Harry Potter (Books) and his wizardy chums return to the big screen for
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, which is probably exactly the same
as all the other films except with more Quidditch - which means more
knuckle-draggingly boring scenes of a pretend sport that about three
people in the whole world find remotely interesting. Have you noticed,
incidentally, that it’s impossible to say the world "Quidditch" without
sounding like a bad, over-earnest drama school pupil? Try it, you won’t be able to.

Anyway, back to the film. We don’t really know what happens in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire
because we don’t read children’s books, but we can thank Wikipedia for
the following summary:

"After spending the Quidditch World Cup with the Weasley family, Harry Potter arrives back at Hogwarts and finds himself entered in the Triwizard Tournament, a challenging competition featuring three dangerous tasks. Harry has to compete with three other wizards, Victor Krum  from Durmstrang, Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons, and Cedric Diggory
from Hogwarts.

"When Harry is shunted into the Triwizard Tournament
without his knowledge, he is obliged to duel with a dragon and battle
with underwater creatures to save what he will miss the most. Finally
the third task is a maze which seems pretty straight forward. However, Hagrid
and the ministry have provided many magical creatures which stand
between him and Triwizard Glory. With the tournament over, Harry should
be done with danger, but he is ripped from safety by his long running
nemesis Lord Voldemort."

Same
old wizardy crap, then. But this time, the characters have slightly
longer hair. At this rate, by the time the last film comes out, Harry’s
going to look like Devendra Banhart (DVDs). New additions to the cast include
Ralph Fiennes and Trigger from Only Fools And Horses. One of them plays
Voldemort, but we won’t tell you who.

Today, the Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire trailer goes online.
It’s not great - most of it shows the wizards getting older, and
there’s a mermaid. And it ends with what sounds like a drunk old man
whispering stuff into Harry’s ear.
