If there was an award for Best Medical Drama That We've Never Managed To Watch An Entire Episode Of But That Stars The Asian Woman From Sideways then Grey's Anatomy would totally frigging walk it.
Equally, we're fairly certain that Grey's Anatomy would win the Show Where Two Of The Actors Halt Production Because They're Too Busy Punching The Shit Out Of Each Other award. Because reports are suggesting that's exactly what happened between Grey's Anatomy stars Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey on Monday. Now, if only the makers of Grey's Anatomy could somehow make their show a tenth as exciting as this news is, perhaps we'd be able to sit through a whole episode.
Lately it seems like the real-life shenanigans of top-rated American TV shows are fast outstripping the excitement seen onscreen. Take Desperate Housewives, for example. On screen it's all Teri Hatcher going "mer mer mer mer mer," but offscreen, stars are getting almost blinded by exploding lightbulbs and knackering their ribs on trailer steps. We know which one we'd rather see. Even on Lost – where onscreen a spooky smoke monster chases the sexy survivors of a spectacular plane crash around a beautiful tropical island – people are now more interested in the cast's basic inability to drive cars very well.
And so to Grey's Anatomy, the thoroughly dull yet inexplicably popular medical drama that's shown on Channel Five in this country and ABC in America and has sparked an annoying trend of wankers calling people nicknames that start with 'Mc'. Reports are suggesting that two of the Grey's Anatomy actors Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey started beating each other up onset on Monday, as Forbes reports:
The actors shared a heated exchange Monday about cast members delaying a scene when Washington, 43, grabbed Dempsey, 40, by the throat and shoved him, according to the newspaper. Representatives for the actors said the two have made amends. "Differences are inevitable," Washington's publicist, Cynthia Snyder, said in a statement. "They were aired, resolved and everyone has moved on." Dempsey's spokeswoman echoed that sentiment: "There was an argument on set. In any close-knit family, sometimes people argue. But everybody made up and went back to work."
ABC seems to be trying desperately hard to make sure exact details of this Grey's Anatomy actor-fight between Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey under wraps, but surely it's missing a tricky by doing this – surely even more people would be inclined to watch the sappy Scrubs-cloning medical drama if they knew two of the actors had a fight. What's more fun than trying to see the hatred in an actor's face when they're being filmed trying to be friendly to someone they were trying to strangle only moments earlier?
In fact, we kind of wish more stuff like this would happen in Britain – Coronation Street would be a whole lot more interesting if we knew Rita and Norris were going at each other with Stanley knives in the newsagents just before their scene started.
