Grammys Tomorrow: Madonna Hates Mariah
Some of you may be under the impression that the Grammys are an exercise in rewarding the best musicians in the world for their hard work, but you’d be wrong – it’s entirely an ego thing.
It doesn’t really matter who wins what at tomorrow’s Grammys, so long as a handful of long-simmering rivalries get torn wide open in as entertaining a way as possible. And things are looking good – it’s being reported that Madonna and Mariah Carey are already at each other’s throats over who gets to sing first. Brilliant.
Remember Live 8? Both Madonna and Mariah Carey (CDs) performed that day
and, in their own ways, both tried to outdo each other. Madonna’s
opening volley – holding a confused African’s hand and saying
"motherfucker," before singing the same line of a song over and over
again – was generally thought to have outdone Mariah’s later effort -
getting loads of little Africans on the stage and then complaining
endlessly about mic stands and being thirsty. And Mariah, if reports are to be believed,
is still smarting.
But – Mariah being Mariah – she had a cunning plan to upstage her
old rival at the Grammys; she wanted to open the show with an immense,
choir-backed version of her hit single We Belong Together. After all,
she must have thought, she is up for eight awards. This is her year.
Beat that, Madonna.
So Madonna did – she decided that she wanted to open the Grammys herself, by doing a duet with some mockney cartoons.
Tough choice – a self-obsessed harpy endlessly wailing like Michael J
Fox trying to operate a theremin, or a pensionable woman wearing a
piece of dental floss singing a song with the wannabe Alvin & The Chipmunks?
Eventually, the producers of the Grammys settled on Madonna and
Gorillaz to open the show – and Mariah is apparently totally pissed.
Let’s cross our fingers for a Jarvis Cocker-style stage invasion by
Carey during Madonna’s performance tomorrow night.

Madonna, who was there to present an award to Elizabeth Taylor kept it quiet. Mariah said “not like some people out there who keeps wearing short dresses to get publicity…” refering to Madonna. Then being the two-face bitch she is, she hasn’t wore any clothes since then. Madonna never said anything bad about Mariah. Mariah has fought everyone from Toni Braxton to Eminem to Madonna and always she started it to get publicity. She had most of her number one albums and singles when she got married to her boss. Mariah is friends with Toni Braxton, and HAS publicly ripped into Madonnna, but not then, many years before. This is a summary of what happened:
The rivalry started in 1995 when Madonna made an unprovoked attack against Carey in an interview in which she insulted Carey’s music. She and many other artists at that time felt Mariah’s music is too mainstream and that’s the reason for it’s popularity, and it being very ’safe’ in that she doesn’t try to new styles of music. She said “if I were Mariah Carey, I’d kill myself”. Carey seemed to be shocked, as she had previously been a fan of Madonna’s music. Madonna is and will always be the epitome of American pop music. I don’t know either artist, and I am 39 years old, so I been around long enough to tell you this. I still hear “Live to tell” on the radio and never hear any “Old Mariah”. Mariah’s voice irritates me as much as the way she carries herself, it is true her album sold very well, 5 million in the U.S, and 2.2 million around the world. madonna’s new album as been out almost 3 months and she as sold 1.3 million in the U.S. and 5 million around the world. Do the math, to all you Madonna haters, write back in another 9 months, and we can see who sold more. My guess will be Madonna, also just to let some of you know, Madonna does co-write and co-produce her music. And I think after Madonna’s fabulous performance, and Mariah losing every major grammy, except for the 3 she won BEFORE the show, her ego needs some help, maybe she will release another “Glitter” or “Charmbracelt”, or even worse a 3rd addition of “Mimi”! I hope not!
When you want to compare singers, u need to take into consideration how good their voice is, their music and their ability to write their own songs…i think mariah has by far outscored madonna in regards to all these points. She is the best selling female artist of all time, she sings like an angel…and continues to work hard for her fans by producing an album every year of her life.
