Gorillaz Tour Habbo Hotel

When most bands embark on world tours, they tend to involve months of endless waiting on buses and planes, eating bad motorway cafe food and occasionally playing music in tiny American towns where nobody even knows who they’re watching.

But Gorillaz aren’t most bands. They don’t even exist. So instead of a conventional world tour, Gorillaz have announced plans to tour the world of Habbo Hotel. 

For those of you unfamiliar with Habbo Hotel, it’s pretty much just
an Internet chat-room. The only difference being that the user is
represented on screen by a tiny animated version of themselves, and
they can walk around the different rooms of the virtual hotel talking
to whoever they want.

It’s the kind of place where we imagine kids go to pretend they’re
adults, and middle-aged truck-driving adults go to pretend that they’re
schoolgirls. And everybody probably talks in mindless txt-speak. But
it’s very popular, so who are we to argue that it’s a little bit creepy?

The cartoon band Gorillaz don’t seem to mind. Supposedly comprising
2D, Murdoch, Noodle and Russel, the band are really Potatoboy from
Blur, the bloke who invented Tankgirl and some session musicians who
might be The Bees. And they’ll be spending an hour in Habbo Hotels
around the world between August 22 and September 2.

Visitors to the site will be given the chance to share a special
hotel room with the band so that they can pose all kinds of questions
to the Gorillaz. We’re expecting that the majority of the questions
will either be "A/S/L?" or "Do U lke Blazin Squad? dey well buff".

All this virtual goonery is to promote DARE, the marvellous Shaun Ryder-resurrecting new single, out on August 29th.
