Friends star David Schwimmer has signed up to appear in a West End play.
The production called ‘Some Girls’, will see Schwimmer take the lead role, playing an emotionally distraught womanizer who visits his ex-girlfriends, in order to find closure before he ties the knot.
The show will go on stage on May 12th at the Gielgud Theatre and should turn out to be a huge success. The play is written by Neil La Bute, better known for his scripts for Nurse Betty and The Shape of Things.
Best known for playing Ross Gellar, some of Schwimmer’s more memorable Friends moments include being married to a lesbian, breaking in and out of an English accent while teaching University students and going for his doctor’s appointments with his paediatrician. His comedy acting has undoubtedly, made him the favourite of many Friends fans.
However, until now he has taken a back seat and has presumably been developing his own directing skills. The star has directed plenty of Friends episodes and is set to direct on Matt Le Blanc’s television spin-off ‘Joey’ shown on FIVE. It is good to see another Hollywood star taking time out to grace the stage for the enjoyment of the British public.
David Schwimmer is also rumoured to have a comedy feature on its way, which he will direct, called ‘Run, Fat Boy, Run’ written by Michael Ian Black. Keep your eyes peeled for this one and let’s see if he makes a cameo in it.
Unfortunately, Schwimmer has not had many money making film roles, but he hasn’t sold out either, thus avoiding the many critical / commercial flops like the rest of the Friends cast.
If you are a fan the some of Schwimmer’s better performances include Apt Pupil, The Pallbearer and Band of Brothers. He’s also on voiceover duties for Melman the Giraffe in the soon to be released animation hit, Madagascar.
Go get ‘em, Gellar.
