Sometimes we worry that we’ll never understand Americans. They have heaps of great TV shows like Lost, 24 and The Sopranos, but instead they all want to watch imported British crap like Footballers’ Wives.

For reasons completely unknown to most right-thinking people, Footballers’ Wives - famous mostly for having an episode where a thick woman sets her tits on fire - has become a must-see show in America. Footballers’ Wives is even being called the new Dallas. Look, it’s weirded us out a bit, OK?

So Footballers’ Wives (DVDs) has become a breakout hit on BBC America,
which started broadcasting the third series at the weekend. And if it
is the new Dallas, then Tanya Turner is the new JR Ewing. Which makes
Zoe Lucker the new Larry Hagman, only without the previous career on I
Dream Of Jeannie
or the crippling alcoholism.

Zoe Lucker and Laila Rouass from Footballers’ Wives have been flown
to Hollywood for a big promotional push - which mainly seems to involve
filling up some goalposts with a bunch of naked blokes and making Zoe
walk past. And the push seems to working - American TV critics are
going barmy for Footballers’ Wives. The San Francisco Chronicle said
that:

"It makes competitors - namely Desperate Housewives - seem dowdy and creaky by comparison."

But
here’s a nightmarish situation - if America loves Footballer’s Wives,
just think what it’ll make of Hotel Babylon. And shudder.

    What a bunch of crap!!!
BBC_America channel? Never heard of it!
Footballers’ Wives? Likewise, never heard of it. And none of my friends have seen it nor heard of it. You’ve got to be making this story up to help get press for the new show. Good Luck.

Don’t knock this show if you haven’t watched. My wife and I have watched it from episode one and are ADDICTED!! Zoe Lucker is fantastic. The problem is that BBC America is usually only available on satellite or cable’s digital tier.

‘What a bunch of crap, I’ve never heard of the BBC America channel’

Leaving aside the bloody great big link at the bottom of the article that takes you to the BBC source for this info in the first place, why don’t you try typing ‘BBC America’ into Google?

Don’t you also think it rather amusing that if you haven’t heard of something, you think it can’t possibly exist?

As a brit living in America, I love seeing Footballer’s Wives and other series BBC America has to offer. Footballer’s Wives may be a little far fetched, but I enjoy the clothes the locations and Zoe Lucker is memorizing as Tanya Turner where has KC been under a rock, never heard of BBC America or the show, maybe it doesn’t exist!!
