The film world poked its head round this week in the midst of all the gaming and slipped out a few choice nuggets for us to swallow bitterly.
In between E3, the Las Vegas Trade Convention slipped out some information and proved to be a poster bonanza, featuring: Transformers 2 (Here), Spiderman 4 (Here), Scott Pilgrim vs The World (Here) and the new Woody Allen Movie (Here).
Elsewhere Pirates of the Caribbean overlord Gore Verbinski may be off the Bioshock movie. Finally, Bruno publicity hits Eminem in the face in a – Is it staged? Isn’t it staged? Will Bruno overexposure dwarf the film ala Borat? – conundrum.
Headlines:
Bryan Singer Interested In Magneto:
Not in that way of course but Singer may be interested in returning to the X-Men franchise – except for all the damn Nazis; “…I’ve lived in that Nazi universe for quite a while. I just might need to take a little break…” Nazis ruin everything.
Wall Street Sequel Has Beef:
Shia LaBeouf to be exact. Rumours abound that Hollywood’s only twenty-something actor is in talks to play Michael Douglas’ protégé in a follow-up to the 80’s classic Wall Street. “Greed is good!” – Indeed.
Where’s Wally…?:
…Probably sitting in an LA office after news this weeks springs of a celluloid adaptation of the popular children’s book series Where’s Wally? (Waldo for our American cousins). Judging by the lack if imagination in Hollywood, expect Hecklerspray: The Movie to hit the screens soon!
Scream If You Want A Reboot!:
Apparently a franchise that was desperate for a reboot, Scream – The popular 90’s slasher series – is on the fast-track for a fresh start. All the old cast have been approached, seemingly interested after the hollow corpses of their careers seemed to rot away with the insipid third part. Another hurrah for the future of cinema!
Jack Attack!
In some good news; Jack Nicholson is in talks to re-team with Oscar-baiting cohort James L. Brooks (As Good As It Get, Terms of Endearment) for a new role. The news gets less exciting though when it’s for an Owen Wilson/Reese Witherspoon romantic comedy. Uptight, highly-strung woman falls for a laidback, goofball? Groan!
Must See This Week:
Terminator Salvation:
McG hopes to reinvent the Terminator franchise as a dustland war movie featuring gruff blokes with more scowl than muscles. Christian Bale brings some suitable pent-up aggression and serious acting clout to draw in the punters. Meanwhile newcomer Sam Worthington turns in a star-making performance.
Must Not See This Week:
The Spirit – DVD
The DVD of the Frank Miller directed comic book adaptation proving that not only should Miller stick to comics but can’t even rip his own style off!
Video Corner:
Toy Story 3 Teaser Trailer:
Not the most mind-blowing of trailers but anything hailing the arrival of Woody, Buzz and co. is great in our books!

I can see it’s not going to be easy to dethrone the Film Foam. OK then, how about…. Fantastical Film Fandango!?
