Susan Boyle really is a thing of wonder.
When the Scottish mentalist stepped on to the audition stage of Britain’s Got Talent, we all expected her to be a crazed lady who’d throw cats at the judges. After all, she looked like she’d been given styling tips off a tramp and had caked herself in dust in order to top off the chic appearance of weirdness.
But no, we were taken aback. The voice of an angel came out from the face of a gargoyle. OK, she didn’t win the bloody thing – she got beaten by some kids who do somersaults in the air – but we love our Susan Boyle. Even better, our American friends have embraced her and oddly shelled out cold hard cash for her records. Americans don’t want her, do they? They can’t relate to a wobbly woman, but they can to a sickly sweet child.
Ahh, the American dream, a vision that is often stained with the misery and tears of thousands. Actually, that’ll be the pie stains that are spilt on the xxxxxl clothing of adults in their thirties. The sight of a cute-looking kid sends Americans all gooey inside – again it could be the pie filling. What could be more wholesome than the innocent image of a smiling child who is missing some teeth? In the UK, a lack of teeth is either down to a poor diet or a fistfight over a darts score in a run-down pub.
One of America’s shining stars is a ten-year-old called Jackie Evancho. It seems that we can’t appreciate raw talent these days as critics have already ripped the pre-teen’s performance and accused her of miming the whole act. Crikey, how would a person that young know how to copy Ashlee Simpson and Milli Vanilli? Anyway, judge for yourselves below:
So what has caused all sorts of people to piss all over this ten-year-old’s moment in the spotlight? Well, it’s very easy to spot isn’t it? NJ.com reports that people have questioned whether Jackie Evancho was lip-synching during her live performance because:
“They claim her mouth movement and breathing patterns were not lining up perfectly with the audio on their television sets.”
Someone writing under the guise of Cheryl on People.com explained how she thought that Jackie Evancho was miming:
“This was a phony performance, this child was not singing. She was lip syncing, look carefully at her mouth, and her voice at 10 would never sound like that, no matter what!!! What a farce this show is!!!”
Do we think that Jackie Evancho was miming? No not really, the kid does have quite the pair of lungs, and as long as she doesn’t discover things such as cigarettes, alcohol or kebabs then quite likely she’ll be able to re-record classic classical songs that have already been done a million times before.
Look, it could be worse, Jackie could have been Jack. He would have been literally fucked due to puberty taking effect in the pending years. It’s not like woman have to suffer at all.

Are you serious? Apparently you really think the judges, sitting a few feet away cannot discern if she was really singing or not?
You Mr. Laidlow are a complete moron, catering to fringe skeptics a,d nare-do wells who just wish they had any talent at all.
She’s already booked in Carnegie Hall Dec 2, I guess they can’t spot the fraud either.
I for one have no respect to rumor mongers like yourself, and I might add, your inappropriate descriptions of this young lady were way out of line, Are you some sort of child hater? A sickly sweet child? Really? screw off Laidlow!
Wow. You clearly decided to not see this entry through to the end. He isn’t saying anything against the judges or the girl, in the end he clearly states that he, too, thinks that the girl is talented.
Matthew Laidlaw isn’t slagging her off. He’s slagging off the folks that are slagging her off.
But Matthew – don’t dis La Boyle or I’ll have to send someone round to put your windows in.

You can google her and see for your selves she is awesome.
Her rendition of Con Te Partiro is awesome plus she has been singing
all over the place for nearly two years. She is going to be around a long time. I agree that on the Talent Show song it looked unusual but as mentioned it was more than likely a audio problem also bear in mind she is taking classical lessons and if you watch Sarah Brightman she also displays the roll-warble effect common with most female classical singers.

I get sooooooooooooooooooooo tired of people making fun of Susan Boyle’s appearance! Maybe she wouldn’t win any beauty contests, but she’s NOT a “gargoyle” as you compare her to! And as for the little girl, leave her be too! She’s the REAL deal! People like you aren’t happy unless they’re bashing someone else! Get some self esteem the right way, not by hurting others!
To say “everybody hates” someone or something is the most arrogant and stupid lie around. No one person can speak for the rest of us like that. There is no excuse for comparing someone to a gargoyle either, nor for the filthy language used here either. This isn’t journalism, it’s garbage.
Trust me——she is very good, but, she is no Susan Boyle. There will never be another like Susan Boyle or Elvis Presley no matter how you slice the pie. These two are very special human beings & will always remain so. Not to say, in a few years, I’m sure Jackie will go quite far—-after all, she is just learning. She can take it as far as she can & I hope for the best for her.
I’ve got some experience in audio performance and recording and I do not believe that the girl was lip-synching on the video I watched. What is most likely happened was one of two things that are common now but before digital video they were not.
Editing video with audio, you can remove the audio and video connection and edit them separately. They can easily get out of step with each other. You will sometimes see that on poorly edited TV news segments. Sometimes it happens on documentaries for the entire duration. This isn’t new.
So, modern flat screen digital TV’s have an option whereby the audio can be “moved” to re-sync it. Perhaps the TV that people were watching was not set up correctly.
There are other factors that come into play when viewing video over the web. So much depends on the computer performance, network performance, and the original video, that the same problem can occur and the audio seem to be out of step.
Knowing that broadcast digital video generally works at *about* 30 frames per second, and digital audio samples are usually microscopically smaller than one video frame, it’s very possible that a lack of sync might easily occur.
And, so much depends on individual perception and the natural tendency of the brain to “re-sync” things.
So, people who claim she wasn’t singing? Give me a break. She was singing.
My only concern is that she seems highly self-assured and has very good communication skills. In a ten year old girl, that’s more likely to come from parents or coaching than a natural ability. I have to wonder what she missed to make that possible. Sometimes we push kids too far too soon and don’t allow them to grow up into well-rounded persons. Singer with an amazing voice? Sure. Her future character and abilities as a person? Not so sure.
Both Boyle and Jackie are the shock of a voice from someone who doesn’t appear to match.
Jackie is actually better than Susan Boyle. Her open vowel sounds, her resonance, the control of vibrato, and range all surpass Susan. Susan has the backstory that everyone loves and is popular. But as far as technicality is concerned, Jackie is better. This kid should go far and last for a long time.
You’re right. Susan Boyle is a thing of wonder. This young girl was simply singing and while the sound was impressive, Susan is the total package and people love the woman as well as her voice. Susan is a star, while this girl may or may not sell any records. Of course both were discovered via “talent shows” so I guess comparisons are inevitable.
Will have to agree with Lynn. This young girl is impressive. Susan Boyle is incomparable.
I just don’t understand why people have compare Susan Boyle to everyone. Give me a break, on one could replace Susan Boyle. She has an angelic voice, an inspiring story and her own character. Everyone is special in his/her own way. Jackie is Jackie. Susan Boyle is Susan Boyle. People, stop comparing the two.
One of the things that made Boyle’s moment, Boyle’s MOMENT, was that she managed to sing such a difficult song, so well, after being boo’ed the second she stepped on stage and after being treated so rudely by all three judges BEFORE singing. Her performance showed not only skill, but poise. It wasn’t just about being able to sing well.
Great comment…completely agree. I noticed the American audiences have improved things in that arena and seem to give contestants a chance before judging. Susan was magnificent in her courage and poise, and then … THAT VOICE!
