Nicole Evangeline Lilly was born in Alberta, Canada in 1979. She grew up in the rough and tumble atmosphere of the Canadian territories and brought with her to Hollywood some serious DNA: One set of grandparents were Kenyan missionaries; another a British war bride.

To support herself through university, Evangeline held unconventional and conventional jobs before settling on less-harrowing gigs like commercials and films. Monkey, as she is known to friends, mastered the fine art of tree climbing decades before being cast as the enigmatic Kate on the hit TV series Lost.

That role came with more perks than her pre-fame jobs which involved changing the oil on big rigs, the ubiquitous waitressing odyssey and a stint as a flight attendant. “Lost” paved the way for roles like Director Kathryn Bigelow’s 2009 smash hit “The Foot Locker,” countless magazine covers and too many “Sexiest Women on the Planet” designations to count. Her current favorite role is Mom, and her biggest wish is that when her two children are ready for adventures, there are enough trees left to accommodate them. Save the bloody earth, will ya?
