Eurovision Odds – Spain and Sweden
The 2005 Eurovision Song Contest is so close that we can practically smell the body glitter and diamond-studded knickers. hecklerspray, along with Betfair.com, continue to profile each country’s odds for your special betting needs.
The most covered Eurovision song of all time is Voltare. Versions of it have been sung by David Bowie, Dean Martin and Marino Marini, among others. The second most covered is Wohin, kleines Pony?, the 1957 Belgian entry. No it isn’t.
Today we’ll be looking at Spain and Sweden…
Spain (pop. 43,197,684; a country located in southwest Europe)
Spain is betting for Eurovision glory with Son De Sol,
a trio of bikini-wearing Andalusian sisters. According to the official
Eurovision site, when they found out that they’d won the Spanish
selection, they "exploded with joy". We’re kind of sad we missed that.
Their song is Brujeria (Witchcraft), and the lyrics are so barmy we wish we could reprint them all. The best verse goes:
"There is neither antidote, ointment nor remedies of old that
take this obsession out of my mind; nor marvellous owl; nor muse’s
wings stewed with melons and cherries, and I don’t know what to do" Nor do we. Current odds – 109/1
Sweden (pop. 9,006,405; a nordic country in Scandinavia)
Hoping to bring the Eurovision trophy to Sweden is Martin Stenmarck. He’s huge in Brazil and China, and half the population of Sweden watched him win his selection place. His song is Las Vegas, detailing a trip to the town in explicit detail, even giving a special nod to "Fred the limo driver". Fred is probably currently preparing a lawsuit for royalties. Current odds – 54/1
