Eurovision Odds – Macedonia and Malta

Digg this!

MaltaIt’s time for another dose of Eurovision betting knowledge, brought to you by hecklerspray and Betfair.com.

The winner of the first ever Eurovision Song Contest was Lys Assia from Switzerland, with her song Refrain, about melancholy and the colour of rain. This song set the tone for the downbeat understatement that the event traditionally displays.

Today, we’ll be staring at Macedonia and Malta

Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia (pop. 2,022,547; an independent state on the Balkan peninsula)
The Eurovision entrant for FYR Macedonia is Martin Vucic, a boy with a famous bagpipe player for a Grandfather. His song is entitled Make My Day. It sadly isn’t a homage to Clint Eastwood, but a song telling a girl to bugger off. "Make my day/Get away", he succinctly sings. It sure beats "It’s not you, it’s me" as a dumping line. Current odds – 439/1

Malta (pop. 399,867; a small and densely populated island nation in Southern Europe)
Malta have selected Chiara for Eurovision this year. If she was writing a lonely hearts advert, she’d call herself "curvey" or "larger than life", or some other polite way of saying she’s a bit fat. Her song is Angel, all about being there for her miserable lover. "I’ll be the sunshine when you’re feeling blue", she sings, possibly straight out of The Big Book Of Song Cliches. Current odds – 16/1

As the contest gets closer, the odds change more and more – all in real time – so you should head right over to Betfair.com to take a look at the full Eurovision betting list, in the ‘Special bets’ section.
