Eurovision Odds – Hungary and Iceland

It’s time for another installment of the Eurovision Song Contest lowdown, Iceland brought to you hecklerspray and Betfair.com.

In a real Eurovision study, taken in the genuine University Of Leiden by people that do exist, the most common words that Eurovision fans use when discussing the song contest are "Abba", "Dana", "Eurovison" and "Leandros". This is true, and also the single most crap study that anyone has ever undertaken in the history of the pissing universe.

Today we’re taking a look at Hungary and Iceland.

Hungary (pop. 10,006,835; a landlocked country in central Europe)

The representatives of Hungary this year are Nox, a band that has one of the world’s best Hungarian folk dancers as a sort of Hungarian Bez. Their song is the slightly redundant-sounding Spin, World!, containing lyrical gems such as "Don’t hurt me world!/Don’t embrace/Don’t feel!/Your love hurts more", which would probably have Tom Paulin deconstructing so hard he’d eat his own jaw off. Current odds – 26/3

Iceland (pop. 293,291, a borderless country in the north Atlantic)

Singing for Iceland will be Selma Bjornsdottir, who sang for Iceland six years ago, and is now a trainer for the contestants on the county’s Pop Idol series. Her song is called If I Had Your Love, and concerns a woman who thinks a man can solve all her problems. Like that’s ever happened, sister. "If I had your love/I’d live out my dream/flying high above/oooh yeah". What? Your dream is to be a pigeon? Current odds -  37/2

There’ll be more county profiles along tomorrow, but don’t forget you can look at the entire competitor list under ‘Special Bets’ on Betfair.com. It changes in real time, so you can go back again and again and watch your investments start to pay off. And then you can swan around like you’re Johnny Big Potatoes.
