Eurovision 2009: Regina, Bosnia & Herzegovina

Digg this!

Eurovision, Eurovision 2009, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Regina, Bistra VodaTwo weeks into our Eurovision 2009 coverage and we’re already at the B countries. This is going so fast! Phew!

The big question, though, is whether you’re ready for our Eurovision Fact Of The Day. Oh, it doesn’t matter if you are or not, because here it is anyway – Dutch conductor Dolf van der Linde conducted for seven different countries (Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland). Oh boy, that fact’s a KEEPER!

Anyway, here’s the Eurovision 2009 lowdown for Regina, who’ll be representing Bosnia & Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina · Regina, Bistra Voda

And to think, you’ve gone your entire life without knowing what a Bosnian rock band inspired by U2 sounds like. Well that changes now, because here’s Regina and their Eurovision song Bistra Voda. Bistra Voda could be best described as an emotive, slow-burning anthem. Actually that’s a lie – Bistra Voda could be best described as a massive bag of animal jism – but it’s probably what sounds best on their official Eurovision biography. Bistra Voda is sung entirely in Serbian Bosnian, so we haven’t got a clue what it’s all about, but its title translates into ‘Clear Water’, which leads us to believe it’s all about being able to tell when a nice piece of chicken has been safely cooked. All in all, not a patch on last year’s Bosnia and Herzegovina Eurovision entry, because that one was actually good.

Next week – BULGARIA!

“Bistra Voda is sung entirely in Serbian”
It’s sung in Bosnian , NOT IN SERBIAN !!! ( are there educated people here? )

  • anachron says:

Haha, you’d think they would put “Bosnian band” and “Bosnian language” together.

  • Carina says:

In fairness, kids, there isn’t an enormous amount of technical difference between Bosnian and Serbian as languages, is there? Really? I mean, we’re not talking Gaelic and Laotian, here, are we? And given that Bosnian used to part of the big family of tongues known as Serbo-Croat, it’s not that much of an unexpected mistake, either, is it? Terribly insulting and all that, but honest to God, not so much that it matters. Calm down. Concentrate on how rubbish this is. Indeed, how rubbish it all is.

When you are talking about Bosnia and Harzegovina, you should know that we also have uor own language and it is Bosnian language. It doesnt matter if it seems the same as Croatian or Serbian to you, it is Bosnian language. We do not insult anyone, so you shouldnt be insulting us. Only respect is important, nothing else. I dont see any similarity in words “Serbian” and “Bosnia and Herzegovina”… Its so much simplier to say that it is Bosnian language.

    • Selma says:

Would you say the same if you read that British band sings a song in American ? Bosnia as a nation far before Ottoman empire had its own language – read some history books. Wikipedia would do just fine. Get educated people before you say what is rubbish and what is not !
So many Bosnians were killed during the last war just for ’speaking’ Bosnian, so we better learn the difference between the languages.
      Respect !

  • EuroFan says:

Regardless of the language difference (or lack of difference), I think this entry is actually quite promising and I really quite like it. Bosnia + Herzigovina always provide quite a pleasing entry (eg. “Leila” by Hari Mata Hari was great), and I’m sure this one will get quite far. Go Regina!
