2005 Emmy Awards are due to take place on September 18th. But where some of you see a mindlessly self-satisfying round of backslapping by people rich enough to buy your entire family, we see a whole bunch of betting opportunities.

We’re continuing our look at the latest betting odds of the nominees in the six biggest categories, and today it’s time to look at the two favourites in the Best Drama Actress field. One’s a big name, and the other one has a big name. But who’ll win?

Mariska Hargitay - Mariska plays Detective Olivia Benson in Law & Order - Special Victims Unit. We’ve never really got Law & Order, to be honest. It’s just a swanky version of The Bill. But we like that it’s executive produced by a man called Dick Wolf.
Mariska has been playing the role of Olivia Benson for seven seasons
now, and she’s good - she won the Golden Globe this year. She’s also
got the most batshit official website we’ve ever seen. Current odds - 9/5

Glenn Close - Glenn plays Captain Monica Rawling in The Shield. We haven’t seen The Shield, but we’re having trouble imagining Glenn Close from Dangerous Liaisons
starring in a TV show as a tough, slightly racist, policewoman. But
she’s favourite to win this award - though not by a lot - so maybe the
role fits her better than we expect. Current odds - 7/4
