Everybody_loves_raymondThe
2005 Emmy Awards are due to take place on September 18th. Undoubtedly, all the newspapers will concentrate on what ridiculous outfit Eva Longoria will decide to wear to the awards, but not us.

We want to know the betting odds of the nominees. After all, what fun is an awards ceremony that you can’t bet money on? And because we want to know, we want you to know too.

Today we’re finishing up our look at the Best Comedy Series category. Yesterday we dispensed with the outsiders, and now we’re going to look at the three shows with the best odds to win. Even if one of them isn’t a comedy and another of them isn’t very good.

Here are the latest odds for the 2005 Best Comedy Series Emmy nominees, brought to you by hecklerspray and Betfair.com

Everybody Loves Raymond: Everybody Loves Raymond has ended now, so it’s not inconceivable that the show will win the award as some kind of nostalgic backslap. The show was insanely popular, which never fails to astound us. It consisted of a man with a horrifically selfish wife, an uninterested Dad, an overprotective and nosey Mum and a jealous insecure brother. And no jokes. After watching half an hour of Everybody Loves Raymond, we always felt like going and slashing our wrists at the futility of it all. Current odds - 26/3

Arrested Development - My oh my, how we love Arrested Development. An single episode contains more plot points that the entire series of Lost, and it’s intelligently well-paced. It’s won about a billion awards in the past, but it always seems precariously close to being axed. If it wins this year, it should be safe for another season, but we’re not certain it will take the glory… Current odds - 4/1

Desperate Housewives - Easily the favourite to win the 2005 award is Desperate Housewives; the show that made Teri Hatcher famous again, and that also gave Eva Longoria the opportunity to dress up like a comedy prostitute and talk about vibrators on talk shows. We’re sure it’s closer to a drama than a comedy, for the simple reason that it’s an hour long and it isn’t funny. But Heat magazine tell us we all love it, so who are we to argue? Current odds - 6/17

And in case you missed yesterday’s instalment, the odds for the other nominees in this category are as follows:

Scrubs - 39/1

Will And Grace - 25/1

That’s all the comedy dealt with; tomorrow we’ll focus our steely betting gaze on the dramas, starting with Best Drama Actor. In the mean time, head over to the General Special Bets section of
