Today we’re starting our look at the Best Comedy Series category. Which TV show has tickled more ribs and split more sides than anyone else over the last 12 months? The Emmy people have picked five shows that they think are funnier than anything else around. But what are they?

Well, seeing as how the shortlist includes a one-hour drama series and a show where everyone very openly hates each other, we’d guess that 2005 hasn’t been a vintage year for American comedy.

But don’t let that stop you betting on the winner. Here are the latest betting odds for the 2005 Best Comedy Series Emmy nominees, with a little bit of help from Betfair.com

Scrubs: When Scrubs is on form, there aren’t a lot of shows that can
touch it. It can be fast, funny, weird and cruel. But lately, the show
has turned into a bit of a horribly relentless onslaught of slush, sentimentality
and "Gee, my friends sure taught me a valuable lesson about myself"
pukability. That could be the reason that Scrubs is absolutely the
least favourite to win the Emmy this year. Current odds - 41/1

Will And Grace: Will And Grace is one of those shows that wasn’t
very funny until Channel 4 started showing repeats at 9 o’clock in the
morning. Obviously it’s a show more suited to bleary brains. Will And Grace
is said to be coming to an end in the near future, which is just as
well. It’s become almost completely reliant on guest stars, and needs
to be put out of it’s misery. If the makers can pull themselves
together to make one last great season, it’ll win next year. But don’t
hold your breath this time. Current odds - 25/1

Tomorrow we’ll take a closer look at the remaining nominees - the
shows that stand more of a hope of winning
. Until then, head over to
