Dr Who - The CD
Then buzz it up

What’s the best thing about Dr Who (DVDs)? That big eared man from Shallow Grave (DVDs)? No. The walking shop dummies? No. Billie Piper (CDs)? Almost, but no.
The best thing about Dr Who is the theme music. Right now, if we were on one of those ‘1000 Reasons The Past Is Better Than Now’ shows, we’d start the mandatory "Oooh, it was so scary that when I heard it I had to hide behind the sofa" story.
But in truth, that never happened. When has watching a confused-looking man with a scarf run down a corridor made of cardboard been remotely frightening? Never. And if you were scared, you’re a big Jessie.
But the music was something else entirely. The wizards at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop were faced with such a dilemma when making the music for the show, they actually had to invent brand new instruments to play with.
The music from the original shows genuinely sound completely weird and other-worldly, even to a cynical 21st century set of ears. Imagine what it must have sounded like in 1963.
A new CD, Doctor Who At The Radiophonic Workshop 1&2, will be released on June 13th. It contains music, sound effects and atmospheres from the early sixties through to the eighties.
The news has got us jumping up and down with glee. Not that we’re geeks, though. or Jessies.
If you can’t wait for the new CD, get the brilliant compilation Who Is Dr Who - from Amazon.co.uk
