Downright Dynamite Downloads Of The Week: The Exies, Oasis, Reef…
Like a cactus landmarking an otherwise barren desert, like the beam of a lighthouse shining on your boat through the densest fog, like your mom standing on the porch yelling 'dinner!' – it's another week of hecklerspray doling out what little musical direction we can, and praying to the heavens above that some of you out there will see fit to follow.
We've a fine batch for you today, including some of the best tracks from The Automatic, Ozma, Solo, The Exies, Oasis, and Reef.
No, no don't thank us – pay it forward.
The Automatic: Monster off Not Accepted Anywhere
(You'll not find many songs louder than this one – or many that'll freak out little kids more. What's wrong children? Afraid of a monster in the closet?! Well trust us when we say there's no chance of that – we actually had to sleep in a closet until age eight. Ain't nothing in there but you, your dad's socks, and a colony of red-eyed flesh eating rats that like to touch you then run away.)
Ozma: Come Home Andrea off Spending Time On The Borderline
(This song has a power over us. In our minds it somehow got linked to the sweet smell of apple cinnamon oatmeal. Within seconds of hearing it you can count on us either ripping open a box of Quaker Oats, or desperately clawing at the door until someone lets us out. Dare we say you'll not find a song catchier than this either!)
Solo: Over The Country
(This band is shrouded in mystery. Try a Google search on them and you'll get nothing, nothing but a bunch of former frontmen [& women] who've struck out on projects of their own. As far as the song title goes – its search results come up like this: Paul Simon will be playing all over the country. What we're getting at here is the band made a very foolish decision name-wise, but they more than make up for it song content-wise. This track is fantastic, and we cannot type enthusiastically enough to express our love of it!)
The Exies: Kickout off Inertia
(Loud guitars, loud cymbal crashes, and other stuff what's musically inspired. Their albums are hard to come by, but as Wikipedia lets us know, they're very findable on eBay. That's two major internet references in a few short lines. Just you take that into consideration!)
Oasis: Listen Up off Cigarettes & Alcohol (Single)
(Oasis can make for a confusing read on the hecklerspray. The right hand types of love, adoration, and how their collective faces should be put on money, whilst the left hand thinks they'd be better off floating in a murky pond. One thing both hands should be able to agree on, though, is that this classic B-side is one of the best they've ever put out.)
Reef: Lucky Number off Together – The Best Of Reef
(Reef was a fantastic band. We heard they were finished by telegram, then held down the messenger with our fists and our feet until he took it back. It did no good though, because in the end Reef still weren't together, and the messenger boy returned to work tattered and bruised. He said he'd tell his boss he fell of a bike. While most bands putting together a 'Best Of' album may throw on an extra track or two for bonus selling power, Reef slapped on five new ones, and they're all brilliant – especially Lucky Number. You've got to check out Lucky Number.)
