Then buzz it up

We're big fans of The Wire here at hecklerspray.
We are, however, notoriously difficult to please. So while we appreciate the excellent writing, stellar acting and superb production values of that Baltimore-based cop show, we can't help but get the nagging feeling that there's something missing. A unique twist that would truly polish things off.
Thank god, then, for Cop Rock.
Conceived by Stephen Bocco (of NYPD Blue fame) this was a genuine - genuine - US TV show from 1990 which only lasted ten episodes before the network execs pulled the plug. Why? Well, we can only assume that those cowardly suits just weren't ready for such a jaw-droppingly unconventional take on the genre. Or maybe they just realised that they'd commissioned the worst mistake in the history of television and were trying to rectify the situation sharpish.
One or the other.
