Kanye West has found himself in a whole lot of hot water this week, all because he dared to showed up to work.
That work happened to be in the corrupt central Asian country of Kazakhstan, and Yeezy may have been payed a disgusting amount of money to perform in front of the country’s president, a guy with some questionable morals to say the least. But hey, let’s give the guy a break – all those Givenchy leather kilts don’t pay for themselves!
So what if President Nursultan Nazarbayev has been accused of violating human rights by torturing people, imprisoning anybody who doesn’t like the way that he runs things, and ruling over the media with a rod of iron? His grandson, Aysultan Nazarbayev – yes, that Aysultan – is getting married, this is no time for pondering over his ethical policies!
Of course the Human Rights Watch (What have they ever done for the world?) feel the need to stick their collective nose in:
“‘Kazakhstan’s serious and deteriorating human rights situation includes credible allegations of torture, the imprisonment of government critics, tight controls over the media and freedom of expression and association, limits in religious freedom, and continuing violation of workers’ rights”
Geez, what a buzzkill. Can you at least have the decency to wait until after the honeymoon to bring up the fact that the grandfather of the groom kind of puts the ‘dick’ in dictator?
$3 million is a small price to pay to get a personal show from Kanye – he’s Mr Kim Kardashian after all! Booking a DJ for your wedding is such a poor person thing to do. If you’re the head of your own country, just get all the civilians to pay for it. They don’t really need all that clean water or access to medicine anyway.
Sting also refused to play for the Kazakh president back in 2011 over something as petty as the country’s treatment of oil workers. What a poser. It’s not like he’s ever interested in this stuff any other time.
Kanye’s a rapper, he’s far too important to Google the name of the guy flinging a few LV suitcases full of money at him. Even if he did, the buffet at this wedding has to be worth ignoring a few unsavoury torture allegations…
