X Factor presenter and general counter-culture icon Dermot O'Leary has stuck it to the man once again, but it may be once too far, as this time the man is Celine Dion.
You'll remember that when she was on the show, Celine Dion was discussing the X Factor contestants with O'Leary live on air. Celine wanted to discuss all the contestants on the show, one by one, in a slow, dragging dialogue, with no regard to TV scheduling or the interests of others. And why shouldn’t she; her voice, after all, was the voice that sang over the closing credits of Titanic, making her forever synonymous with the sight of our lovely Jack’s tiny frozen face sinking away into the awful darkness of eternity.
We can all agree that because of this, she quite rightly enters that stratosphere of celebrity where, due to past successes, they are lifted above the laws of the land and common decency, just as OJ before her, who will be forgiven for anything he ever does, because he once did that hilarious scene in Naked Gun where he tried to hijack a drug deal on a boat, but it all went wrong and he ended up falling overboard!
Fantastic! Who are we to tell OJ who he can and can’t kill (he didn’t kill anyone, of course)?
And who, then, are we when compared to the titan that is Dion? We are the shit on her shoe – make no mistake about that. And it’s what we deserve to be. Let her scrape us off with as much disdain as she can muster. This is clear to most of us. However, Dermot O’Leary, the maverick that he is, seems to think otherwise.
The presenter told Heat magazine that Celine was eager to speak about all the contestants on the show but said that he didn't have time:
"The thing was, she really wouldn't stop, and I had producers in my ear telling me that if she carried on naming every single act on the show and telling us what she thought of them, we'd fall off the air before we got to the actual results. So I literally had to shut her up, and just had to say something. She has that very Quebecois stare. Her management weren’t happy about it."
To his credit, O'Leary later offered to apologise to Dion, but claims that his bosses told him not to, saying: "No way. You were great with her."
And so his bosses are in on it too. What kind of a world do we live in? If they had it their way, they’d lock OJ in jail and ban all kids from the Neverland ranch too! We here at hecklerspray think all involved at X Factor should take a good, hard look at themselves and for one second consider that life isn’t all about creativity and revolution; sometimes we need to respect our elders, our traditions.
After all, If Celine Dion is getting upset, it begs the question: what price revolution?

Long live “the revolution” in disposing of the poseur Dion!
Queen Celine of the Soft Headed should be told to shut up! I read somewhere that her new album (which I cannot understand why anyone would buy) made reference to the word “love” 45 times… Barf!
The city of Halifax, Nova Scotia (where Dion was planning to hold an outdoor concert) recently told Dion to go away so apparently telling her both to “shut up” and “go away” works… Who knew that revolution could be so easy!
