Darkness Unaware Of Own Awfulness

Digg this!

The_darknessJustin Hawkins has announced in a scathing outburst that he considers the majority of British music "a joke".

A statement that might have a bit more weight behind it were it not coming from the mouth of the lead singer of The Darkness – a band apparently intent on a) dressing like the world’s most high-profile bunch of pervert uncles and b) releasing the sort of cack-awful nonsense that makes ripping your own ears off seem like a viable option.

Speaking to Kerrang! magazine – and the emotionally crippled dullards who read it – Justin of The Darkness clambered up onto his high horse to tell everyone that:

"British music is the laughing stock of the world. It’s such fucking dreary bullshit. It’s such a cliche to say, ‘We were so bored of the industry around us that we started our own band’, but it’s no coincidence that all our influences are from a long time ago."

Obviously ignoring the fact that The Darkness is point-blank the worst in the world, Hawkins waffled on that "bands today produce boring music which fails to interest international audiences." A statement which could undoubtedly double-up as a catalogue description for his putrid emission of a music career, surely.

Still. These pensioners are always a bit grumpy, aren’t they?

This writer is in fairyland. The Darkness huge $$$$$ success speaks volumes for itself. Obviously they’re NOT the “worst band in the world” or they wouldn’t be laughing so hard all the way to the banks.

  • madeofsquares says:

the darkness are a ‘joke’ band themselves! but he’s right about most current music.

then again, nowhere else is producing anything good lately. and i believe germany still regard the hoff as a musical genius?!

  • ipf says:

What the fuck is wrong with you? The Darkness are the best band in years.

  • dt says:

if the darkness is ‘point blank the worst in the world’ who is at the other end of the scale? how many debut albums from british artists have sold 2 million + albums outside the UK lately?

  • Joanne says:

omg u idiot The Darkness ROCK, and yes they are soooooooooo more interesting than some out there not mentioning any names…..

U ARE DUMB AND DAKNESS ROCK!

  • Vincent says:

The Darkness weren’t a joke band. They wrote great, sophisticated harmonies and were influenced by the best rock & roll. It is the current shit state of music that makes people believe this joke band nonsense. Darkness come from a long line of great rock including Beatles, Cheap Trick, Kate Bush, XTC, Scorpions, Prince, the list goes on. I guess nobody really wanted rock to be saved, or “One Way Ticket..” would have been huge. Complex, diverse, outlandish, badass rock. Hawkins makes it look effortless live. A thousand times more sophisticated than Motley Crue or Def Leppard.

  • Stabby McGee says:

They weren’t a joke band, but their second album was a joke. Also, I suspect their decline in popularity had less to do with the questioning of their musical ability and more to do with the fact that they had to actually write new tracks for ‘One Way Ticket…’ instead of just putting together ten songs from their back catalog (they’d been going for effing ages before they got their big break).

It might also have been linked in some small way to the fact that their live shows once they got really famous were insultingly awful. As to the rumours about certain bandmembers preferring to stuff certain substances into certain cavities instead of practicing and writing music, well… the jury’s out on that one.
