Anyone else getting a bit bored of this? There’s an awards ceremony - Brokeback Mountain and Crash win the lot. Then there’s another awards ceremony - Brokeback Mountain and Crash win the lot too.

Guess what’s just happened? There’s been an awards ceremony - this time, the Writers Guild Of America (WGA) awards - and Brokeback Mountain and Crash have cleaned up. Predictably. Still, there’s always the WGA TV awards; what show won that? Oh, Lost did. Predictably.

OK - we get it. Brokeback Mountain is a great film, a tour de force, a masterpiece. To be fair, we picked up on that when The Los Angeles Film Critics Association named Brokeback Mountain Film Of The Year. And we realised it again when Brokeback Mountain won four Golden Globes. And when it won the Producers Guild Of America Best Film award. And all the Oscar nominations that it got.

So it wasn’t a real surprise to anyone when Ang Lee’s (DVDs) Brokeback Mountain
snatched the Best Adapted Screenplay prize at this weekend’s WGA awards in
Los Angeles. Perhaps the writers of Bewitched snapped their pencils in
anger, but that’d be about it. And Crash, the film about how racist
Sandra Bullock is (or something, we haven’t actually seen it), won Best
Original Screenplay
, setting up a nice head-to-head for the Best
Picture
award showdown at the Oscars.

As for the TV awards, Lost cleaned up - again - by winning the Best
Drama Series
WGA award, and Curb Your Enthusiasm won the Best Comedy
Series
WGA award.
