Christmas Number One Betting Odds - Tuesday’s Odds
December 20th, 2005 at 10:30 by Stuart Heritage

The search for the UK 2005 Christmas Number One continues to hot up, even though the record that’ll probably actually be Christmas Number One isn’t even out yet.
Even though Shayne Ward bleating That’s My Goal will probably be everyone’s abiding memory of Christmas 2005, the betting for the Christmas Number One is by no means over, although it is technically a three-horse race. One of the horses is Irish, one of them sounds like Athlete in a power cut (don’t take it as a compliment, it wasn’t meant as one) and one has just received millions of votes in a national talent competition. Not looking good is it, diggerboy?
So here’s another Christmas Number One betting odds update, with help from SportingOdds.com…
Shayne Ward - That’s My Goal. We heard this song so many times on
Saturday night, and we saw Andi Peters waggle the CD artwork around for
an age as well. And yet we genuinely can’t remember what That’s My
Goal sounds like. Probably a lot like Evergreen, except we can’t
remember how that goes. When we try to think of Evergreen, we hear
Colourblind by Darius. Darn these talent show monkeys. We can remember
exactly how It’s Chico Time goes, though. That’s My Goal could well be
the least memorable Christmas Number One in history. Or it might not be
- it isn’t even released until tomorrow, and it’ll be playing catch-up.
Oh, who are we kidding? That’s My Goal has Christmas Number One stamped
all over it. Current Christmas Number One odds - 1/10
Nizlopi - The JCB Song. So Nizlopi already own the Number One spot with their song about diggers. That in itself is vaguely unbelievable - that more people would rather buy a record about a baby in a digger than a woman saying "My humps," over and over again. The JCB Song sounds like the sort of awful stuff that gets played in the background during a boring scene in Dawson’s Creek or something. Can Nizlopi hold on and get the Christmas Number One too? We wouldn’t have thought so, but stranger things have happened. Current Christmas Number One odds - 7/2
Girls Aloud - See The Day. One of the only real contenders for a Christmas Number One that isn’t Nizlopi or Shayne Ward is Girls Aloud. Girls Aloud have put a lot of trouble into trying to get a Christmas Number One - they’ve released a slow, slushy song. They’ve all worn white for the video. There might even be snow in the video. So Girls Aloud want the Christmas Number One badly, but they’ve forgotten that effort is the uncoolest thing in the world. Also, the song’s rubbish. Current Christmas Number One Odds - 25/1
Anyone Else - And we don’t mean ‘anyone except for Shayne Ward, Nizlopi or Girls Aloud’, either. We mean ‘anyone who isn’t on the massive list on the SportingOdds website’. But the betting odds are good, so we’ll show them to you. Current Christmas Number One odds - 8/1
