Time for another beastly rampage through some UK Christmas Number One 2005 betting odds - a quick squint at a bunch of soppy songs all trying to be as good as 2 Become 1 by The Spice Girls.

Christmas Number One Fact Of The Day - In the Christmas of 1980, people were still struggling to come to terms with the brutal assassination of John Lennon. And yet they still chose There’s No One Quite Like Grandma by the St Winifred’s School Choir as their Christmas Number One. What’s that all about?

Today’s globule of potential Christmas Number One hits come in the form of songs by The Pogues, Elton John And Joss Stone, Pussycat Dolls and Take That. Christmas Number One betting odds, as ever, from SportingOdds.com

The Pogues - Ah, The Pogues. Fairytale Of New York is one of the
all-time classic Christmas songs, even though it never managed to be a
Christmas Number One first time round. Following the tragic death of
Kirsty MacColl and the inexplicable survival of Shane MacGowan,
Fairytale Of New York is being re-released on Monday as another chance
to become Christmas Number One. However, we’d imagine that sales of the
single will be affected by everyone hearing the song in every single
freaking shop and pub
they’ve been to in the last month. Current
Christmas Number One odds - 20/1

Take That - Since announcing that they’re to reform, Take That have
been the subject of lots of Christmas Number One speculation. People
thought they might be able to get it together enough to release a
single quickly and watch it climb to Christmas Number One. But Take
That are touring next year, so they’re all too busy trying to get fit
again - and Howard Donald’s trying to dreadlock his hair in
double-quick time - to release a Christmas Number One Single. They are
releasing the dreadful-sounding Element Remix of Relight My Fire in
February, though. More’s the pity. Current Christmas Number One odds - 40/1

Elton John and Joss Stone - Back in July, Elton John revealed that
he was going to write and record a special Christmas duet with famous
dog-lover Joss Stone, and try and claim the Christmas Number One spot with it.
If that’s true, where’s the song? Well, we don’t think it can be that
much cop, because it’s being slipped out in a new Starbucks Christmas
compilation album. If the song - entitled Calling It Christmas, fact
fans - was even semi-decent, it’d be released as a single like a shot.
But it isn’t. An Elton John and Joss Stone Christmas Number One? No
way. Current Christmas Number One odds - 50/1

Pussycat Dolls - Pussycat Dolls are often called The New Spice
Girls.
But that’s because they’re all girls and none of them are very
pretty, not because they’re likely to get a Christmas Number One.
In fact, they’re very unlikely to get a Christmas Number One this year,
because their last single Stickwitu came out last month. And it’s
rubbish. Ask someone at Easter to sing Stickwitu to you. They won’t
remember how it goes. Current Christmas Number One odds - 50/1

We’re doing this until Christmas, you know. That’s plenty of time for you to check out the amazingly comprehensive
Christmas Number One betting market over at the Specials section of
SportingOdds.com. And get betting - it’s the only way to stop you
becoming completely sick of the bloody songs.
