As if the people of the Gulf Coast haven’t suffered enough: first all kinds of terrible weather conditions destroy their homes, now Celine Dion and Elton John decide to sing their troubles away – together!

Celine Dion and Elton John recently performed a concert in Las Vegas to help raise money for 8,000 casino workers who had been affected by last year’s hurricanes. A good cause, we’re sure. The concert raised $2.1 million – although presumably most of that was to get Celine Dion to keep her trap shut.

In the hurricanes that hit America’s Gulf Coast last year, several
thousands of people lost their homes and their livelihoods. And 8,000 of
these people worked for Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. And, in the
casino-est, Vegas-est was it knew how, Harrah’s decided to raise some
money to help the affected thousands – by getting Celine Dion and Elton
John (CDs) to sing their hearts out for them.

Celine Dion and the officially un-rude Elton John performed in
Caesars Palace to 4,100 punters who paid between $100 and $1000 to get inside out of the rain
watch two musical heavyweights slug it out for charity. Elton John and
Celine Dion took turns to perform, and even Jerry Seinfeld joined in
too – although it’s not clear if he brought his own slap-bass player to
tell the audience when a punchline happens. The finale was an
Elton/Celine duet of Sorry and Saturday Night, and Elton said:

"I’ve played in Biloxi many times. I’m just glad we can do
a little something for those people’s lives that will never be the same
again for many, many years. God bless them."
