The golden rule of advertising crappy products is that they’ll seem less crappy if you get David Hasselhoff to endorse them.

It’s a crap rule, by the way, because the only people who ironically like David Hasselhoff are clueless, easily-pleased bottom-feeders who’d literally soil themselves if they ever happened to blunder across an original thought of any kind. Nevertheless, the makers of Ready 2 Rumble Revolution thought it was a risk worth taking. The result is either hilarious or so depressing that you’ll want to strangle the world to death and lock its corpse in your cellar, depending on if you’re us or not.

Are you still thrilled that you decided to buy Guitar Hero instead of Rock Band? You are? Probably best to move on then. We don’t want to break your heart.

Because, while Rock Band is bringing out a new edition based on the legendary songs of The Beatles this year, full of varied, seminal songs, Guitar Hero is bringing out a game about Metallica. Yes. Metallica. So basically we’re in for a row of 50 identical bad songs performed by a bunch of humourless nimrods for people who don’t really like music. Thanks, Guitar Hero. And if our Wii Guitar Hero instruments aren’t compatible with the Rock Band Beatles game, we’re going to shoot ourselves in the face.

We have to admit that the thought of a game based on The Godfather 2 terrifies us a little, mainly because it’s bound to be 400 hours long, contain vast tracts spoken only in Italian and it won’t be as good as everyone says it is.

But, hey, judging by this game trailer for The Godfather 2, it actually looks like all you do is go around kneeing people in the stomach in slow motion. So that’s just A-OK with us. Now someone hurry up and make a game based on The Godfather 3 – that’s sure to be a blinder.
