MySpace Trawl – The Soul’s Release

The Soul’s Release MySpace TrawlSometimes you just that special time to relax, unwind and forget about everything.

Wouldn’t it be ideal just to pause everything that’s going on around you and just sit in silence whilst reflecting the world around you? We can’t quite do that due to the staff at hecklerspray not quite cracking the secret of time travel, but we can offer you some sort of soothing and calming alternative. The Soul's Release.

MySpace Trawl – Cassetteboy

Cassetteboy MySpaceFor a change this week, we thought we’d get away from the usual music lark and instead offer you something a bit different.

Obviously this is a music feature and some of you may be left scratching your head until sparks appear and burn down your house. There is music involved in what we have found, but it’s not the main focus of what’s going on. In what can only be described as comedy cut and paste tape music, we have stumbled head first in to the hilarious work of Cassetteboy.

MySpace Trawl – Unicorn Dream Attack

Unicorn Dream Attack MySpaceHonestly we haven’t been picking bands based on their name over the last few weeks. It just seems that the people out there with the more bonkers names are capturing our attention.

We’re sure that if someone decided to call themselves Generic Sounding Indie we’d listen too. We’re nice people and we give everyone a fair chance. After last week’s look into the world of the cover version, we’ve gone back to look at some music which makes us want to dance in the street and force others to join us. Sadly we were detained by the police for grabbing people and waving their arms frantically around. Some call that partial assault but we call it a discothèque groovetastic move.

But who could blame us when we were listening to Unicorn Dream Attack

You! Write The New James Bond Theme!

James Bond Theme-Tune Devil May Care Book Competition 007 Quantum Of SolaceYou heard right - there's a competition to write the theme-tune to the new James Bond.

Relax, nobody wants you to write the theme-tune to new James Bond film A Quantum Of Solace - the least rhymable 007 movie since 1977's The Spy Who Loved Oranges - but the new James Bond book Devil May Care. Interested? Then read what we've just been sent:

Musicians and James Bond fans across Britain have the rare chance to be a part of 007's iconic history as Penguin announces its search for the theme tune to Devil May Care, the eagerly awaited new Bond novel written by Sebastian Faulks. From today visitors to uk.myspace.com/devilmaycarebook have the chance to create an original piece of music for the new Bond book which is published on 28th May, the centenary of Ian Fleming's birth. The winning track will become the book's official theme tune and will be featured on the Devil May Care audio book, published on the same day. This will be the first theme tune to accompany a James Bond book and will later be available as a free digital download.

OK, it's not quite as prestigious as writing the theme-tune to a James Bond film, but this is clearly an opportunity not to be missed; Devil May Care rhymes with everything. Breville-Made Hair, Level-A Bear, Dishevel Day Fair, Bevel Clay Square - see? Everything.

If you do fancy having a pop at this songwriting challenge, remember that your entries have to be in by February 25. And if you could fit in a verse about finding out about the competition on a blog called hecklerspray that can sort of be quite good every now and then, we'll love you forever.

MySpace Trawl – Richard Cheese

Richard Cheese MySpace PageOK, we admit this is the first time we haven’t featured an original artist on this well respected and inspirational page. So what gives?

Has our Amy Winehouse-esque crack cocaine lifestyle finally caught up with us, reducing us to report nothing but rubbish? Don’t be silly. We would never do such a thing. Well, at least not yet anyway.

This week, we’ve decided to give a cover singer some limelight - but, as you’re soon to hear, Richard Cheese is a genius.

MySpace Trawl - Robot Ninja Dinosaur Bastards

Robot Ninja Dinosaur Bastards MySpaceThis could be a first - a band that's crossed our path on MySpace has managed to utterly confuse us.

Known as the Robot Ninja Dinosaur Bastards, this bonkers trio make music snatches with elements of old-school electronica and then paste it together with the frenzied genre of Grindcore that we all know and love.

Of course the songs are all short and to the point. If you’re still confused by our description, maybe their own biography will help you:

“Three stupid idiots went berserk and killed people. Found some more idiots….one a girl…..the other…a boy…Throwing people into the sky. Then the Idiots They fall into toxic waste. They grow into Dinosaurs. With Robotic Limbs. A Ninja trained them in the Dark Arts. They find Keyboards. They Find Guitar. They Find Synth. They Kill more People. They can't wait to do poo poos on PEOPLE. They like the woofing dog. Get Us A Robo rape.”

Or maybe not.

However, you look at the Robot Ninja Dinosaur Bastards, be it through crossed eyes or genuine excitement - their own brand of craziness will surely convert people or have them screaming on the floor wishing for it to stop.

MySpace Trawl – Rolo Tomassi

Rolo Tomassi MySpace TrawlIn an almost GMTV-esque gimmick, last week we asked you to try and work out the band we have lined up for you as part of our first trawl for 2008.

With literally zero responses coming in, we assume that people didn’t want to spoil the excitement in the little comment box thing below. Because it’s a new year and all that, we don’t really have any real reason as to why we are recommending this lot this week. It’s probably more down to the fact that they make us mosh a lot. So much so that we have now broken three tables, two chairs, a microwave and burst a bottle of bleach with our antics. The hecklerspray office is in a bad state. We blame Rolo Tomassi for this.

MySpace Trawl – Stuff We Liked From 2007

MySpace Trawl 2007Simple things please the simplest of people, and in our case it really couldn’t be any truer. The thrill of finding £1 down the back of the sofa despite it being caked in dust and mouldy chocolate often sends us in to a spiral of glee for days on end.

Other crap we get kicks from are buy one get free offers from Asda and a game of Uno. Who needs a console named after piss and the thrill of playing tennis with your remote control? But what we do like is music. Ah yes, without the chirps and bleeps coming from the office stereo, we’d actually have to talk to each other. Instead, when communication is needed, we just tap away on MSN to each other and display our emotions in the form of :- ) :- ( or :————————-. Work the last one out for yourself. 2007 saw a lot of music come, go, get laughed at or just plain confuse us.

Just like sitcoms when they run out of ideas run one week, we're going back in time to look at some of our favourite moments from last year.

MySpace Trawl – Bogdan Raczynski

MySpace Trawl Bogdan RaczynskiSilent Night, Away In A Manger and Oh Come All Ye Faithful are the traditional songs that annoying children will sing to you if you are dumb enough to answer your door at any given frozen night about this time of year.

We don’t like these songs very much, they're not very energetic and quite frankly they're not worth giving any money to. But will carol singers sing on our door for free? Will they bollocks. Because we’re miserable old bastards and wish death and destruction over Christmas instead of peace, love and bird flu-free turkey, we thought we’d give you some very nontraditional Christmas music. There’s nothing like roasting chestnuts over a fire whilst listening to the relaxing beats and melodies of Polish Drum & Bass artist Bogdan Raczynski. Polish!

Myspace Trawl – The Sky This Night

The Sky This Night MySpace TrawlBah, it's cold, wet, dark and the high street has an unusually high amount of charity representatives asking us for money, even though we barely have enough of our own to buy our friends and family anything better then a box of Lego for Christmas.

Because it's winter we thought we’d calm the mood down a little and bring you some music that everyone can relax to, At first we were looking for some kind of Sigur Ros meets Explosions In The Sky style band that results in some sort of ridiculously gorgeous musical offspring. But then again that might be a little bit boring. This was until we came across The Sky This Night.

MySpace Trawl – Stars

Stars MySpace pageWe like Stars a lot.

Not only do they have lyrics that almost tell some sort of narrative and paint pretty pictures in our mind, but they've thankfully go the right kind of vocalist to transfer this over to the audience as well. Not once, but twice. Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan have the sort of mesmerising voices that we could easily listen to all night. Their mix of dark moody electronics combined with an uncomplicated backdrop of indie is simple and oh so effective.

MySpace Trawl – Jong Pang

Jong Pang MySpace TrawlWe head over to Scandinavia – a place we have visited on previous occasions - to bring you this week’s offering. In particular we are looking at this Danish artist Jong Pang who is, um, amazingly from Denmark.

Like the majority of people who aren’t from this a particular part of the world – or maybe it's just the ignorant English - we don’t know much about Danish music. Well, that is a lie. Remember the Danish bacon advert? A stone-cold classic in the making and one that was never given a proper release. Every time we munch on a bacon roll the song enters our minds. So fingers crossed that the work of Jong Pong will become our new favourite Danish sound, relegating a song about slaughtered pigs into second place.
