MySpace Trawl – Flunk
By Matthew Laidlow on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 4:30pm | One Comment
MySpace Trawl – Flunk As we’re on a mission to try and bring you pop music from around the world, it only seemed suitable to trawl through Norway.
After being crowned the winners of Eurovision 2009, it only seemed right to see what else they have to offer us. Surely the country has better stuff then Alexander Rybak?
Norway’s most famous musical export of late has been the electronic duo Royksopp. Though the recent output hasn’t really lived to their debut album Melody A.M. It’s all been a bit rubbish and reliant on guest vocals from people like Lykke Li and Annie. Thankfully, Flunk don’t do this.
MySpace Trawl – Unisex

MySpace Trawl – Unisex Girls Aloud, Sugababes, McFly, The Saturdays and er…Blazing Squad.
This is pop music that all the kids listen to. Maybe not through choice, but they end up listening to them anyway. This got us thinking, there must be more pop music out there then what we’re exposed to.
So in a mission that will quite probably end in failure after a couple of weeks, we will make it our mission to bring some cultural pop music to your attention. There’s better place then starting with Japan. Not only is the country a bit mental, but some of the soundtracks to some of their manga animations are literally bonkers. After a selective search, we fell upon Unisex who will no doubt brighten up your day.
MySpace Trawl –Into Flight

MySpace Trawl –Into Flight The great thing about this feature is that we can never run out of bands. Well, that’s unless everyone turns rubbish all of a sudden. But we don’t think that’ll happen anytime soon.
That’s unless there's a retro revival in the sound of Phil Collins and everyone makes slaphead drummer-influenced albums. Jesus, we hope not.
Sometimes a band has to spend years perfecting their craft before they get a break, or an entire batch of self-released records can be sold. Just because you don’t become an overnight sensation doesn’t mean you’re not destined for great things. We admit to not having known Into Flight three years ago, but we wish we bloody had.
MySpace Trawl – Acrnym

MySpace Trawl – Acrnym Oddly, Acrnym has already featured in MySpace Trawl.
Before you jump to conclusions and accuse us of being lazy, that isn’t the case. Acrnym is a member of band who have recently released an album and are gaining the praises of everyone in the music world.
Compare the two together and you wouldn’t expect it was ...
MySpace Trawl – Melt Banana

MySpace Trawl – Melt Banana Everyone knows the Japanese are slightly mental.
They are at least 50 years more advanced than everyone else in terms of mobile phones, cars and tasty noodle dishes. The music they produce is mental too.
When you don’t find yourself sucked into listening to a sickly sweet Japanese pop song, you’ll only get extreme music. Melt Banana are ...
MySpace Trawl – Bombay Bicycle Club
By Matthew Laidlow on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 4:30pm | 2 Comments
MySpace Trawl – Bombay Bicycle Club Hooray hooray hooray, it’s Friday today!
Stick a slick hip-hop beat under those red hot lyrics and we’ll become overnight sensations on MySpace/YouTube and a dozen other social networking sites that have yet to be invented. We’ll even let you be in our posse if we like you.
Whilst our musical dreams are realistically never going to happen, we are quietly confident that Bombay Bicycle Club will go a lot further than us. The difference between us and them is that they can play instruments and can write lyrics that don’t sound like something a seven-year-old would cook up.
MySpace Trawl – War Tapes
By Matthew Laidlow on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 3:30pm | No Comment
MySpace Trawl – War Tapes Before the age of MP3, Minidisc and CD, everyone consumed their music via the trusty cassette tape.
Despite being ridiculously fragile and vulnerable to breaking at the slightest opportunity, this is what was used to listen to whatever crap was popular at the time.
We hope War Tapes are spreading the love of the cassette and er… are waging war on MP3. There we go, crap introduction over. Despite the connotations of violence and death that war conjures up, War Tapes instead create that feel good indie/post-punk music that isn’t dependent on a solitary riff to ride them to success from start to finish.
MySpace Trawl – The Deer Tracks

MySpace Trawl – The Deer Tracks Worried that we'll spout off some rubbish jokes up about how deers are crap musicians due to their lack of being able to grasp a guitar? Relax, we won’t.
Instead we’ll get down to business straight away. The Deer Tracks are a Swedish duo who make wonderfully epic post rock music all mixed in with glitch electronics.
