We should have seen this coming. Throughout Busta Rhymes' career he's warned us that he's Dangerous and that he's Got Us All In Check, but we didn't realise he was referring explicitly to any of his employees that dare ask him for money after Christmas.
According to reports, Busta Rhymes has finally turned himself in to face New York cops following claims that he beat up his driver Eddie Hatchett for having the nerve to ask him for 19 day's back pay on December 26. Busta Rhymes, already no stranger to legal difficulties, now faces charges of assault and behaving like an almost comically violent modern-day version of a festive Dickensian curmudgeon.
We can't be certain, but we're starting to think that Busta Rhymes has some kind of hearing disorder, since he seems to keep mistaking the phrase "sign here, please" for "you big fat smelly motherhammer, I'd like to give you a really nasty Chinese burn." Already in the past Busta Rhymes allegedly beat up a fan who asked for his autograph, and recently it seems like he's done it again – Busta Rhymes' driver claims he was beaten up by the rapper just for requesting a payroll signature from him.
But Busta Rhymes is a fair man and loves talking to the police – unless it's about the time his bodyguard was shot dead, obviously – so at 11.30pm last night Busta Rhymes turned himself in to be busted, as the New York Post reports:
Rhymes, 34, whose real name is Trevor Smith, was charged with assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor. The hip-hop star was accompanied by lawyers Scott Leemon and Robert Kalina when he turned himself in at the 1st Precinct station house in Manhattan at about 7:30 p.m., police sources said. Rhymes was immediately booked and fingerprinted. He was walked out of the station house at around 11:30 p.m. by two detectives and several uniformed officers… He was expected to spend the night behind bars and then face a judge at his arraignment this morning.
This charge is the clearest warning yet that Busta Rhymes and Pussycat Dolls guest-rapping arch rival Snoop Dogg are locked in a bloody battle to see who can get arrested the most within a set period of time. So far Snoop has crept into the lead by getting busted for having drugs and a gun in his car, trying to take a weapon onto a plane and having more drugs and a gun in his car, but now that Busta Rhymes can notch up claims of employee assault, fan assault and possibly having a machete in his car, the game is on again. Where will it all end? Petty shoplifting? The humanity!
