Britney Spears Scarpers From Timberlake Duet

Even though Britney Spears seems to be doing her best impression of a plop-covered, career-massacring, mother-slapping part-time lesbian fruitloop at the moment, there are still people out there who want to help her.

And chief among those is Justin Timberlake. Rumour has it that Justin Timberlake was all set to rescue Britney Spears from her current slump by getting together with Timbaland to write and record the Britney Spears/ Justin Timberlake duet to end all Britney Spears/ Justin Timberlake duets. However, in typical erratic fashion, it's been reported that Britney Spears has backed out of the duet at the last minute and is now refusing to have anything to do with it. Nobody is quite sure why Britney sacked the song off, but now it's down to Justin Timberlake to find another singer to take on the female parts of You Laughed At My Pubey Haircut But Now Everyone Thinks You're A Mental Old Bell-End You Shit-Stained Bitch (PS I'm Doing Jessica Biel Now).

There were many reactions when Britney Spears had her meltdown earlier this year. Admittedly the biggest reaction was a collective scream of "No Britney! Not the vagina! Not the va… arrrgh, my eyes!" but other people took time to fall in love with Britney Spears or try to make sure that Britney Spears couldn't see her children or even declare that Britney Spears was the devil and try to kill her - although admittedly that last one was mostly limited to Britney Spears herself.

But among that din was one whisper of sympathy, and it came from the most unlikely of places - Justin Timberlake. Although since ditching Britney Spears Justin Timberlake has gone on to become the biggest star in the world with the sex appeal to make old women have loud embarrassing screaming fits at him, the street cred to get any seat he likes at Nando's and the downhome charm to actually go on a literal date with his own mother. But despite eclipsing Britney Spears in the fame stakes, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland decided to save Britney Spears.

At the time, most people assumed that Justin Timberlake didn't really want to save Britney Spears at all and just said he would to shut people up. But it seems as if Timbaland and Justin Timberlake really did get their heads together to write and produce a new tune for Britney and Justin to duet on. And Britney Spears seemed game as well, right up to the minute that she actually had to record anything, as Sky reports:

Apparently [Britney] ditched [the duet] last-minute and now refuses to record the song penned by JT. The duet was to be produced by Timbaland and could have been just what the doctor ordered for her comeback. A music industry source told Page Six that Just wrote the duet especially for her… The source added: "Timbaland set aside a week out of his crazy schedule to do this - and then, just before she was supposed to fly out, Britney abruptly cancelled the session and refused to do the song. It's crazy. She's looking for a comeback, and this would have not only been a huge hit, but something she could have opened the MTV Video Awards with and really blown everyone away."

As yet, nobody knows why Britney Spears binned the duet idea. It's possible that Britney Spears chose to prepare for her upcoming child custody battle rather than singing a blippy little song about love, or possibly the emotional wounds of Britney's relationship with Justin Timberlake are still too fresh for Britney to bear. And let's not discount the fact that Justin Timberlake's song just might not have been up to the high standards of Britney Spears's back catalogue. Fingers crossed it wasn't the last one, because if the song wasn't even as good as I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman there's a very strong chance that it would have caused permanent deafness to anyone that heard it.
