Everyone has their own opinion on Britney Spears driving all around town with her baby on her lap. But everyone isn’t US Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, who has called Britney "irresponsible."

Oddly enough, though, Mineta wasn’t slamming Britney Spears for the way she was pictured driving her car while endangering her baby’s life by resting him in her lap. In fact, Norman Mineta took issue at Britney’s Toxic video, saying that Britney wasn’t giving the emergency safety procedure clearly or slowly enough in the portions of the promo where she was dressed as an airline stewardess.

Not really, he’s annoyed about the baby thing. And he’s making up all kinds of new laws and stuff as a result of it, too.

The whole Britney Spears (CDs)/ baby/ car/ lap thing is refusing to die down, even after Britney’s solemn "it is what is is," semi-apology last week. Britney obviously wants it to go away, and has even returned to her new Christian-baiting job in the hope that people will stop tutting at her and rolling their eyes.

But not only is Britney still the talk of the town, she’s also being
discussed by the US Government. Nothing new there – there is a chasm as
wide as the one between the Republicans and Democrats over whether or
not Britney should, like, totally ditch that loser K-Fed – but this time,
Britney’s actions are actually resulting in changes to the law. It’s
Britney’s fault, really, for getting caught right before Child
Passenger Safety Week.

US Transport Secretary Norman Mineta was speaking at an event at
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to mark the start of Child
Passenger Safety Week, and took the time to give Britney Spears a right
old slagging:

“Recent photos of Britney Spears driving with her
infant son on her lap
are troubling. And while Ms. Spears has acknowledged her mistake, her
actions still send the wrong message to millions of her fans. No matter
who you are, there’s absolutely no excuse for this display -
not instinct, not fear, not even reckless paparazzi. It’s irresponsible
to compromise the safety of a child for the sake of
the moment.”

Seemingly as a result of Britney Spears driving like a
nut, Mineta announced $25 million in new funding to US states that pass
new booster- seat laws. He said:

“Each year, over 53,000 kids are needlessly injured in crashes. If all of these children had been riding in a booster seat, it’s
possible that thousands of them would have escaped their crashes
virtually unharmed.”

Tom
Cruise
must be kicking himself – after he did all that dicking around
with the sonogram machine, the government didn’t spend so much as a
penny on enforcing knee-jerk anti-babyspy practises.
