We're three quarters of our way through the British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds, and we're getting into the good bit – the bit without any Doctors or Hollyoaks actresses.
Believe it or not, but Pam St Clement, who plays Pat Butcher in Eastenders, isn't being nominated for the British Soap Awards Best Actress trophy. This bewilders us because, not only is Pam really posh where Pat is a flipping cockney, but she's had to do things over the last year that would sap the will of lesser actresses – like kissing Frank Butcher and kissing Patrick Truman. Bleurgh.
Here are the British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds for Charlie Hardwick, Kacey Ainsworth, Sue Cleaver and Sally Lindsay, with help from PaddyPower.com…
Charlie Hardwick – Charlie Hardwick plays Val Lambert in Emmerdale. We have to make a small admission here; Charlie Hardwick starred in Purely Belter, the worst film we have ever paid to go and see. It was so bad that we've made a pact with ourselves that if we ever see anyone from Purely Belter in the street, we'd seriously think about mugging them to get our cinema ticket money back. But as Val Lambert in Emmerdale, Charlie Hardwick has shown that Purely Belter was just an unfortunate fluke. She's lively, she's funny and she's gotten in so much trouble that nobody on Emmerdale really likes her. She doesn't stand a chance of winning the Best Actress award, but you can't have everything. Current British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds – 16/1
Kacey Ainsworth – Kacey Ainsworth plays Little Mo Slater in Eastenders. Everyone always says what a great actress Kacey Ainsworth is, but we're really not so sure. Since evil Trevor and his hilarious violence left Eastenders, Kacey has been without a sparring partner to bounce off. The latest tactic that Eastenders bosses have tried out on Kacey is basically to give her a relentlessly crying baby. This hasn't worked too well, partly because all Little Mo does is shove a pushchair around the set and look grumpy all the time, and partly because crying babies do our head in, and we turn the TV over when she comes on. Current British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds – 10/1
Sue Cleaver – Sue Cleaver plays Eileen Grimshaw in Coronation Street. Every soap needs a gobby fat female character, and Coronation Street has about 12 of them. However, Sue Cleaver stands out because she gets to flex her comedy chops every once in a while. Working in a taxi office with hilarious Craig Charles from hilarious Red Dwarf has probably helped her hone her skills – possibly by doing the exact opposite of whatever he says is funny. But Sue isn't just a token comedy character; she has brought real depth and humanity to Eileen Grimshaw. However, she's friends with the awful TV reviewer from GMTV, so we should knock some points off for that. Current British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds – 10/1
Sally Lindsay – Sally Lindsay plays Shelley Unwin in Coronation Street. The last 12 months have had two very distinct sections for Sally Lindsay. The first half was spent sulking in her jim-jams in her bedroom going "Charlie! Charlie! I love you Charlie!" every time he hit her, then she shouted at Charlie in a car. But since that happened, Sally has reverted back to being a dull-ass barmaid with nothing interesting going for her at all. There's a message here – being psychologically abused by your boyfriend is better than not being psychologically abused by your boyfriend. Or something. Current British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds – 9/1
