Now that we're through with the British Soap Awards sexiest male, sexiest female and villain of the year betting odds, we can now look at the best actresses in Soapland
The saying goes that British soap operas are all about strong women. In reality, however, British soap operas are mostly about screeching old women with weird hair and yellow nicotine-stained fingers. And you can now place a bet on which screeching old woman with weird hair and yellow nicotine-stained fingers will win the British Soap Awards Best Actress prize. Hooray!
So here are the British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds for Eva Fontaine, Diane Keen, Sarah Dunn and Cassie Powney, with help from PaddyPower.com…
Eva Fontaine – Eva Fontaine plays Faith Walker in Doctors. Now, last week we hunkered down for a spot of research and watched an episode of Doctors. And this is what we learnt; Eva Fontaine silently picked something off a trolley once. What a damn fine actress! We might be judging Eva Fontaine unfairly here, because her character has also copped off with most of the cast, been raped, had an abortion, got married, lost her house to debt causing her husband to get involved with – and then murdered by – a vicious drugs gang. So she must be a good actress to show that range of emotion. Or perhaps all her scenes were rubbish. We don't know, we just saw her take something off a trolley. Current British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds – 80/1
Diane Keen – Diane Keen plays Julia McGuire in Doctors. OK, so our Doctors research was quite limited. We know that Diane Keen has a wide mouth, she got her boobs out for John Thaw once and not a lot else. But her character plays Christopher Timothy's wife, a role which means she has to get to on quite well with everyone she meets. That's not too much of a stretch for Diane's acting skills, but maybe her soap pedigree (she's also been in Emmerdale, Crossroads and Brookside) will earn her some bonus points. Current British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds – 80/1
Sarah Dunn – Sarah Dunn plays Mandy Hutchinson in Hollyoaks. Somehow, Sarah Dunn has managed the giant Hollyoaks mincing machine that mashes up all the young Hollyoaks actresses when they turn 21 – she seems to have been in Hollyoaks since the dawn of time. Her character has probably seen a lot in the last year. We saw 'probably' because – although we'll watch Doctors – Hollyoaks clashes with that show about people cooking dinner for the Queen, and we like that too much. At the moment, Sarah Dunn's character is reportedly grappling with bringing up a baby. Whether or not she's very convincing at it is up to you. Current British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds – 66/1
Cassie Powney – Cassie Powney plays Mel Burton in Hollyoaks. We wonder how this news went down in Powney Towers. Cassie Powney is shortlisted for the British Soap Actress Best Actress prize and her twin sister Connie isn't. Maybe there'll be a twinfight. Let's hope so, anyway. We'd imagine that Cassie Powney got the nod over Connie Powney because Mel Burton, Cassie's character, is a bit of a boozehound, and acting drunk in a convincing way is a tricky trick to pull off. Mel is also a rape victim, which seems to be the nominee character trait du jour. Current British Soap Awards Best Actress betting odds – 50/1
