Brad Pitt has been a dad for almost a couple of months now, and all the experiences that he's been through in these last few weeks have left Brad with one jaw-droppingly profound though: being a Dad is quite good.
OK, so more than quite good – Brad Pitt just won't shut up about how brilliant it is to have little Shiloh Nouvel lying around the place screaming and crapping herself all the time. In fact, Brad Pitt says that he gets a more pronounced feeling of accomplishment by making Shiloh Nouvel burp than he does from making films. Fair enough; we've seen Troy and Meet Joe Black, and we'd have probably rather watched a belching baby too.
Giving birth to Shiloh Nouvel seems to have done the world of good for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Formally the man who got angry at Paris for being a bit cabbagey, fatherhood has officially turned Brad Pitt into one of the greatest Americans in the world. And Angelina Jolie? Well, she's the same vaguely self-righteous charity crusader that she's always been since she had her baby, but she's been a touch more arresty of late, and she's started obsessively studying animal kung fu.
Another of Brad Pitt's projects is saving New Orleans with his bare hands. Well, not quite his bare hands, but he's sponsoring an architecture competition with Global Green USA to find low-energy, low-cost designs with which to rebuild the flood-ravaged city. And to drum up support and awareness for the project, Brad Pitt appeared on NBC's Today show to discuss it. And then proceeded to talk almost exclusively about how brilliant Shiloh Nouvel is instead:
"Man, I got kids now. And it really changes your perspective on the world. It completely changes your perspective. And certainly takes the focus off yourself, which I'm really grateful for. You know, I've had my day. I've had my day. I made some films and I've really had a very fortunate life. And it's time for me to share that a bit. I'm so tired of thinking about myself. I'm sick of myself. I can't do justice to it any more than any other parent can. You feel that you want to be there and you don't want to miss out on anything. It's a true joy. You know, you can write a book, you can make a movie, you can draw, paint a painting, but having kids is really the most extraordinary thing I've ever taken on. And, man, if I can get a burp out of that [baby], that little thing, I'll feel such a sense of accomplishment."
This was a broadcast on behalf of the Brad Pitt 'There Angelina, I Said I Love Being A Dad On TV, Now Will You Sleep With Me Again' Fund.
