Brad Garrett Got Divorced Four Months Ago

Everybody Loves Raymond was a highly successful sitcom, proving once and for all that watching a family that you don't care about shout at one another for half an hour is the most fun a person can have.

But as soon as Everybody Loves Raymond ended, the relentless misery continued for one of the cast. Brad Garrett - the unusually Frankensteiny-looking brother from Everybody Loves Raymond - has announced that he's recently got divorced. Well, we say 'recently, but he got divorced four months ago, and has been apart from his wife all year. Don't feel bad about not being told that Brad Garrett was divorced any earlier, though - the lanky fool hadn't even told his own parents, either.

There's been an alarming trend of late for divorces to end nicely, and it's doing our nut in. Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson split up without any public fighting and even Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards managed to reach some form of amicable agreement in their divorce. What's the world coming to? Why can't there be more juicy David Hasselhoff-style divorces, complete with "whore cunt bitch slut drug addict" quotes? Don't go looking for one of those around Brad Garrett's way - his divorce seems almost sickeningly pleasant.

Brad Garrett is one of those actors that is instantly recognisable on sight - even if he flew a rocket into space and exploded the moon people would still call him That Tall Moron From Everybody Loves Raymond - and his trademark brand of downbeaten humour was just one of the reasons why we can't stand to watch him in anything that he does. Brad Garrett's private life, too, is in a bit of a state - Brad divorced his wife Jill Diven four months ago and didn't tell anyone. Not his co-workers, not even his family. 

But those four months seems to have smoothed over whatever hurt and pain the divorce caused Brad Garrett and, now that he's finally decided to talk about it, he's being sickening sweet about the whole thing. Go and get a sickbag and then read what Brad Garrett told USA Today:

"Our No. 1 focus is our kids and parenting. We will always be friends because we will never be single parents. We will always be two parents. You can't stay together for the kids, because kids know everything. Sure, it's daunting to have Daddy move out, but when he's back two days later, and he gives Mom a hug, and everyone goes to lunch – that's what it's about."

It's heartening to see that Brad Garrett has boiled down parenting to "everyone goes to lunch" isn't it? Maybe he should write a book, the Brad Garrett's Big Book Of Getting Secretly Divorced And The Everyone Goes To Lunch. Although he's now fully divorced from his wife, Brad Garrett still has a room in the family house, while she has space in a house that she helped him look for in Malibu. And, for the most part, Jill Diven seems equally at ease about her Brad Garrett divorce, although she can't help hinting at something darker lurking under the surface. Jill says she has:

"nothing but positive things to say about Brad. We both realised we're best friends, and we're always going to be best friends. People grow apart. We could do the 'he said-she said' thing, but that's not us."

No! That's exactly what we do want! More 'he said-she said' things, please. If this divorce happened on Everybody Loves Raymond, all we'd get would be 'he said-she said'. Plus there'd be the world's most annoying old woman shouting about all kinds of stuff in an irritating way until we're forced to turn the TV off. Actually, we not sure what that's got to do with Brad Garrett's divorce, but we just felt that we needed to put it out there, you know?
