The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe had it all; talking animals, a sexy evil witch and teeth-grindingly earnest child actors. And it kicked the arse off King Kong at the box office.
Disney, the money behind the Narnia movies, knows full well not to tamper with a winning formula, and that’s why there won’t just be a brand-new Narnia movie – Prince Caspian – coming next year, but Andrew Adamson is returning to direct, Christopher Markus and Steve McFeeley are returning to write the script and all the cast are also ready to appear again. Whether this includes the Jesus-lion or the Paedo-goat is unclear.
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe (Stuff) was a
giant box office success, eclipsing the gross of King Kong – winning
the Christmas war of films about ridiculous animals – and becoming Buena
Vista’s most successful-ever live-action movie. And so, even though CS Lewis would have probably thought the Narnia films were bollocks,
it looks like all seven of his Narnia books are going to get turned
into films. And that starts with The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince
Caspian.
In the plot of Prince Caspian, young Prince Caspian gets the help of
all the children from The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe as he tries
to regain his crown. And there’s a fight. And it’s a bit less Jesus-y.
The script of The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian is yet to be
written, but it’s hoped that the film will be ready for release by
Christmas 2007. Co-founder of Walden Media, Cary Granat, is over the
moon at being able to make enough money to buy a fleet of speedboats express the purity of vision of the Narnia books through film:
"I’m unbelievably relieved that what we hoped has happened. It reminds me of when I was kid and saw clouds and
wondered how it would be to touch one. And when you’re an adult and
you’re on a mountain and actually have a chance to touch one, all you
can think is, How cool! We’re incredibly elated right now."
Cuh. All this fuss about a talking lion.
