Boring Lily Allen Calls Other Boring Singer ‘Boring’
Then buzz it up

'Exciting' really is a subjective term.
For example, if you asked hecklerspray to picture something 'exciting', we'd probably suggest white-water-rafting in a river full of mutant sharks. Or maybe ram-raiding a petrol station while smoking cigarettes in a car made of balsa wood. Or possibly the wildest idea we can think of: staying out really late until our mum shouts at us.
'Exciting', however, is not a word we'd use to describe the music of Lily Allen. If we were being kind, we'd say 'overplayed'. If we were being moderate, we'd say 'not our cup of tea.' And if we were being vicious - i.e. ourselves - we'd say 'unmitigated cack'.
In Lily Allen's mind, though, things are different. It's slowly becoming clear that she sees yakking away in a pretend-Brixton accent while occasionally taking recreational drugs as being on a revolutionary par with Abbie Hoffman or something.
How else could you justify the pot-calling-kettle action of Lily slagging off fellow Brit Nominee Corinne Bailey Rae?
Lily Allen's tirade went something like this:
"Corinne Bailey Rae? I think she's a bit boring, sorry. She's a lovely girl but I don't think her music stands out and I'd be a bit annoyed if she won Best Female Artist. I'd be really happy if Amy Winehouse wins, though. She's brilliant. When I heard about the nominations I felt like it was a bit of a burden. I hate being in competitions because I never win. I'll go home with nothing. I just know I will."
Ladies, ladies… allow hecklerspray to settle this argument.
All we have to do is take one look at the simple fact: that Ms. Allen, Ms. Rae and Ms. Winehouse are all nominated for a Brit Award, which means - by default - that their music is the sort of insipid wallpaper favoured only by Mondeo-driving accountants who buy two CDs a year. Therefore the overall level of rubbishness is levelled out, distilled and refined in an equilibrium of mediocrity that not even the Red Hot Chili Peppers could come close to topping.
Well. Maybe if they really tried.

Oh come on… lots of exciting bands have been nominated this year. Like Snow Patrol and, um, Will Young and…
No, you’re right. Carry on

Tell me why oh why…
would anyone, i.e Lily Allen, aspire to being a glorified pop-chav who boasts about getting into fights and thinks its cool to slag off her fellow mediocre pop tartlets. She both looks and acts like a 12-year old
and I really don’t know what all the hype is about.

You People really dont no anything! Lily has a interest in keeping British music good and not boring coffee table music such as errr corrine bailey rae!! at least she has opinions and doesnt worry about how her opinions will effect her record sales which is alot more than can be said about mrs rae who i dont think i have ever heard speak. she doesnt slag people off to get attention she does it because she doesnt like them. simple as that and you people should stop criticising her for it, if you dont like it then stop reading lily’s blog and go read corinne bailey rae’s which i’m sure will be very fun indeed.

you seriously must know nothing! Lily Allens a fantastic songwriter…And i am astounded that you could say anything EVER about the Chilis. Mediocre? you must be either tone deaf or desperately uninformed, im hoping it is the first because otherwise you wouldnt be doing your job very well would you. You are simply one opinion, as am i, but that you are writing these random ramblings as if they are fact is so bloody annoying! Lily is just the kind of person that is not shy of voicing her opinion on other artists, after all isnt that what the music industry is all about? Except she’s not doing it the sly way…

How sad. I like Corinne and Lily. Their music is cool. >=o Maybe just cuz I’m from the states and all music that’s not from here is cool. -__-’

I caught Lily on Jonathan Ross (I REALLY wish this show was on BBC America!) and was, admittedly, very impressed with her performance. She does seem to be a bit too impressed with herself and her ability (name a child of famous parents who isn’t, to a degree). The album itself is a bit poppy for my tastes, but it’s reggae/ska inspired beats are a refreshing ingredient that rarely shows up here in American Pop. LDN, for me, is very reminiscent of Blondie’s Tide Is High cover…
Oh and the Red Hot Chili Peppers haven’t been relevant in 10 years. A sad, slow demise for a vital, influential band. They should’ve stayed on the smack!

Hey, we accountants are frugal and wise to buy just two CD’s a year using careful consideration of the benefits versus the depreciation of the assets involved! Please give more credit to us in your comments!
