Borat – the Sasha Baron Cohen creation from Kazakhstan – is already in enough hot water for calling Madonna a "genuine transvestite" and Shakira a "prostitute" during the MTV Europe Awards earlier this month.
But now things are looking bleaker or Borat – the foreign ministry for Kazakhstan is considering taking legal action against Sasha Baron Cohen for ridiculing the citizens of Kazakhstan.
Borat – the brainchild of Ali G (DVDs) inventor Sasha Baron Cohen – arrived
at the site of the MTV Europe Awards in Lisbon in an ‘Air Kazakh’
propeller plane piloted by a one-eyed man clutching a vodka bottle.
Borat’s previous antics have involved telling tales of how
cow-punching and urine-drinking are commonplace in Kazakhstan. And the
Kazakhstan foreign ministry has had enough.
Yerzham Ashykbayev, a spokesman for the ministry held a press conference yesterday where he claimed:
"We
view Mr. Cohen’s behaviour at the MTV Europe Music Awards as utterly
unacceptable, being a concoction of bad taste and ill manners, which is
completely incompatible with ethics and civilised behaviour."
Worse
still, who’s not to say that Sasha Baron Cohen is some kind of evil spy
being ordered to destroy the country of Kazakhstan:
"We do not rule
out that Mr. Cohen is serving someone’s political order designed to
present Kazakhstan and its people in a derogatory way."
Borat,
famous for making a bar-full of cowboys sing Throw The Jews Down The Well
and forcing a group of US officials into a 10-minute silence for an
atrocity that never happened, is yet to respond to Ashkybayev’s
comments.
But Sasha Baron Cohen is said to be working on a Borat movie
for release next year. And presumably a piss-poor duet with Shaggy while he’s at it as
well.
