Big Brother betting odds channel fourThis is the day that literally everyone on the entire planet has been trying their penis in a knot about - the eighth season of Big Brother starts tonight, so get ready to relentlessly tut and sneer about a TV show that you actually secretly quite like.

OK, so perhaps 'like' is the wrong word. After all, nobody really watches Big Brother because they like it, do they? People watch Big Brother because they either a) get weirdly hooked on the sight of an intensely-edited show about arseholes being arseholes, b) feel the need to watch a live feed of arseholes sleeping to make themselves feel less lonely or c) enjoy pointlessly texting things like 'NaDiA Iz A sLaG' to premium rate television shows. But anyway, like it or not the new series of Big Brother starts tonight - so expect the usual insightful commentary from us about the new housemates tomorrow morning. But here's a set of new Big Brother betting odds to tide you over in the meantime.

So here are the Big Brother betting odds for Big Brother to get axed before the end of the series, with help from Paddy Power

Will Big Brother be pulled from Channel Four before the end of the series?

YES - There always seems to be something that kickstarts a debate about whether or not Channel Four should axe Big Brother before its scheduled run has ended. In the past there have variously been outcries over Big Brother sex, violence and, most recently, a fat idiot being so racist to a millionaire that everyone in India set fire to little wooden Jade Goodys. And every year Big Brother seems to get closer and closer to the precipice with questions asked in parliament, sponsors dropping out and calls for the resignation of Channel Four executives. Perhaps, just perhaps, this will be the year that Big Brother finally goes too far and Channel Four is forced to ditch the series before it ends. Killing Big Brother sounds like a drastic move, but there are upsides to this idea - after all, no Big Brother means there'll be 12 less grasping dickwads trying to fight over crummy digital television presenting jobs. Sounds reasonable to us. Current Big Brother betting odds - 6/1

NO - Without controversy, the new series of Big Brother would be about as interesting as, well, Big Brother 4 - and we know what a terrifying prospect that is. So there's bound to be a bit of controversy popping up on Big Brother over the next few months. But from the look of it, Channel Four and the Big Brother producers seem to want to only stir up the sort of controversy that won't force Gordon Brown to go grovelling to an entire subcontinent. It's clear from the still-leaking Big Brother rumours that the most controversial thing in store for this year is a bath in the living room - which is admittedly very controversial if you're either a conservative plumbing engineer or an imagination-starved pillock with no friends. Perhaps something will cause Channel Four to axe Big Brother prematurely, but considering the amount of revenue that Big Brother earns for the channel, it's hard to see that happening unless a housemate goes mental, rapes a dog and then beats a catholic priest to death with it. Unfortunately, that scenario has been pencilled in as a shopping task for week six, so stay tuned. Current Big Brother betting odds - 1/14
